When is he supposed to go to work?
Before or after rush hour? Anything of a limited speed like that should follow similar procedures to wide loads IMO.

D'oh!!

How did you manage to get back without cash/card to pay for a flight? yikes
Luckily as I work for the airline in question, I was able to use my free travel privileges.

It's not just one persons journey that's more important than another persons... I'm sure the 1,000's of people who's journey was delayed were more than happy for the traffic to be slowed to the lowest common denominator.

The event: Wedding Anniversary.
The place: Restaurant in Wokingham.
Our table: By the window.
Knob behaviour: Smokers talking, shouting and drinking right outside said window.
Result: We could barely concentrate on our oak smoked salmon, the seared duck breast in a lightly poached orange jus with a gooseberry foam, and as for the bottle of Crystal!! Happy Anniversary.
No alternative table available?

No.
Exellent restaurant, not one seat vacant.

What if she was very close to her house and there was someone there who could change it rather than potentially waiting for a recovery service. Don't be so judgmental when you aren't armed with all the facts...
Don't. Talk. ste.

If the police caught her, she would have been stopped and booked.
It's dangerous and ignorant to drive on a clearly fked tyre. No excuses.

I'm sure the knight in shining armour could come to her. Or call the recovery services.
I'm sure a lone woman at night would get put quite high up the queue to get attended.

Great contribution, why not come back when you can formulate coherent sentences.

I've done similar before, except it was my passport I forgot. Had to pop home and get it (luckily not too far from the airport).

No, he's right.

The selfishness of the crane company and your lack if empathy for the effect of their action on thousands of people is quite staggering.

+1 Sorry BT, but I thought exactly the same as soon as I read your post. In my opinion, there's really no justification for the amount of chaos caused by cranes, tractors & the like on busy roads during rush-hours. It's not just selfish, it's downright dangerous due to the speed differentials involved.

If you can't brake in time to avoid a fking huge crane in front of you then you probably shouldn't be on the motorway.

As for the cranes they could have set off early and been delayed for some reason. Usually the MLMs and tailgaters cause the delays, a crane would have negligible impact overall.

People who pull over to answer the phone - A MILLION times better than trying to drive on the phone so I applaud them for that, however they seem to think the nearest junction/verge/pavement/private driveway is the best place to do it. And once their vehicle comes to a stop they just freeze, suddenly they completely forget about driving and all attention goes straight to the phone. Last Friday night I came round a bend on a country lane to find a car up ahead which the driver had obviously pointed at the nearest verge and halted at a jaunty angle, still on full beams, foot on the brake... yapping down the damn phone.

So I suppose it's progress but what's so hard about finding a good safe place to pull up, slip into neutral, handbrake on, lights at least dipped or even down to just sidelights, engine off or whatever etc. THEN start gassing.

Even before reading your comment, I saw your username and knew it contained a thinly veiled insult. You seem to have an angry point to make with everyone mate.
Actually, I'm well able to avoid slow vehicles or must have been really lucky these past 25 years of often 'driving like I stole it'. There are many others on the road though, whom I'd rather weren't forced to change lanes and jockey for position around some rolling roadblock in early morning gloom.
Maybe the vehicle had problems earlier?? Possibly, but I rather suspect it's a business decision based on a standard working day or overtime. Either way, it's still an unnecessary increased risk.
So now I'm changing my mind about the thing that makes me think knob from BT's post to yours. Just please cool it down because it just pisses everyone off when folk are only on here for a dig.

In the current case, unless someone has had the pleasure of driving on the M8 through the centre of Glasgow at rush hour they really should think before they post. I'm going to Glasgow for a meeting tomorrow afternoon. I'm taking the train...

Yep, no delays/problems, just business as usual. I live just off the M9 and said crane company has their depot nearby, meaning that their route goes close to my house and takes my route to the M9. I'd say 3 days out of 5 per week, I get stuck behind one of these cranes heading to the motorway. If not, I encounter one further down when I spot the flashing lights of doom!!
