The superstar in the crusty Mondeo estate -complete with baby on board sticker- that overtook me in the 30 limit (residential area) when I slowed down to navigate the the raised drains as the road was being resurfaced and then took off like he was trying to break the land speed record. .

The chav in a 320d in the outside lane of the m62 this morning who sped up prevent me overtaking another car in the middle lane, then decided to get offended that I'd chosen to indicate my intention to move to the outside lane.

Individuals, in busy eateries. That sit in a booth designed for 4-6 people when there are tables for 2 available....

Rhetorically asking if the other 3-5 spaces are taken, before sitting at the table with my two children restores the karma.

Agree, but one must also consider the possibility that the tables for two were not available when they came to sit down...

On October 26th I was cycling home and noticed a Corsa with one tail light and no number plate light. This was a non-issue at the time and I've kept the clip for what happened before Corsa Boy was a feature.

This morning as I was driving home I noticed the same car...

...and immediately thought "knob".

How can you be so unaware of your cars condition that you haven't noticed the tail light and number plate lights are out for best part of two months?

We've had some pretty crap weather between, mist, fog, torrential rain, ice and such. Idiots like this are one of the reasons I drive to work these days and have a camera in or on whatever vehicle I operate on the road. rolleyes

Not true. I used to own a Ford lorry which maxed out at 45mph (having taken a week to get there). THAT was one dangerously slow vehicle.

Whoever it was or whichever local planning commitee here in Spain decided that there should be two manhole covers in the road surface, next to each other, right where your tyres go so you hit both at once (can't avoid them thanks to badly parked/dumped cars either side), and set a few inches below the road surface. And generally the state of the road surface and road markings around here, it might be my OCD but I am instantly relaxed the moment I step back into a car in the UK. Even today pulling up to a traffic light in the dry, my ABS kicked in - grip wasn't a factor in the choice of tarmac around here. Or ability to support itself and be reasonably level.

Stupid b*nt in the Silver Range Rover on the M8 this morning at the M9 merge. I was enjoying my rush hour commute at normal motorway speeds for once, given that the schools are off and a lot of people are off work already. Trying to merge from M9 onto the M8 at around motorway speed and spy said b*nt in lane 1 of the M8 coming slightly behind where I anticipate merging. Not a single other car on the M8 so I indicate to merge and expect her to pull out into L2 to help with the merging but no...blinkers on staring straight ahead not moving an inch, forcing me to slow down to 40 to wait till she passes rather than me being a knob myself and speed up to pull in front of her (which I was tempted to do).

I know she has the right of way but with no other cars on the road, the courteous thing to do would've been to pull out to L2. Sadly I don't even think she was aware that she was being a knob.

This is Pistonheads, you'll probably get slated for this. Members will say that you should have adjusted your speed earlier so as not to arrive side by side with her. Afterall, she does have right of way, not you so she did nothing wrong. Would have been nice for her to pull out though.

I know zedx19, well aware of the risks of posting on here smile

As it happens, I did slow down when I saw her in L1 but it was annoying that I had to do so when all she had to do was pull into L2 and we both could've continued on our journey at the same speed. It certainly wouldn't have delayed her at all. It's the inattention that annoyed me. That and the fact that up until that point, my communte was actually quite pleasurable for once!

I disagree.

She did do something wrong - she failed to drive courteously and so as to reduce risk and inconvenience for others.

The poster should, maybe, have adjusted his speed earlier to avoid having to brake late, but he may well (understandably) have expected the other driver to be awake and to have basic driving skills.

I would have put the hammer down and gone in front, as I expect most people would in this situation. I avoid braking at motorway speeds unless it is the only way to minimise the relevant danger. In this case, the loud pedal was the more likely to reduce danger.

You should have adjusted your speed earlier. If both motorways were free flowing at 70 and you really had to slow to 40 you clearly left it too late.
I prefer people don't move over as they're normally going slower so I either have to slow down to their speed and wait a safe distance behind for them to move back over or I have to "undertake" them and then probably get stuck with them hovering in my blind spot and too close to the next thing in L1 to safely pull out in front of them.
I mean, except obviously when it's really busy and there's no room for joiners, then it's nice to move over. Except when lorries do it and then try to overtake you.

If she didn't change her speed, you should have. She shouldn't be inconvenienced by your change of speed/lane.

If she changed her speed, she's the knob, otherwise... I'll bite my tongue, as it's Christmas smile.

Yes, she was in the right in that she had right of way and remained at the same speed etc etc. I guess it's just a courtesy thing. With no other cars, I'd say 9 times out of 10 people will have the common decency to assist with a merge so that neither has to alter their speed. My mistake was assuming that this person had some common decency. I'll hold my hands up and say that I was a knob in maintaining motorway speed in trying to merge but in these precise situations, a move to L2 was the obvious and commonly decent thing to do.

Roles reversed, if I'm in L1 and someone is trying to merge whereby we are both going to be arriving at the same point at the same speed, with no other cars in sight and a completely clear L2, I'm making a conscious decision to remain in L1, knowing that the other driver will be forced to brake and wait until I pass or speed up significantly to cut in front of me.

Either that, or I don't notice them trying to merge at all.

Either or, I would consider myself a knob...either a spiteful knob or an inattentive knob!

If the window is still open, chuck it back in. Or if you can tell the rear door is unlocked/boot too open that say "you forgot something, and don't fccking litter" and then run/drive off.

I was walking the dog, they were driving past and chucked it out about 100 metres up the road. I would have taken the reg if it were nearer!

The government should make it an offence to throw anything out of a car, in the same way it is an offence to throw anything out of a plane, on safety grounds as well, as the littering aspect of this highly anti social habit.
I watched a m*ron at a McDonalds chuck a huge pile of waste out of his chav box, such that it formed a pile against the side of the car, when there was a waste bin about 1.2 metres away from the side of his car.
And in the summer it is often the dog end chucked out of a car, that starts grass fires. It is also not very pleasant when on a bike, being hit in the face by a carelessly discarded lighted dog end.

As this is Pistonheads... It's not right of way, it's priority. wink
It's still a bit rude not to pull over to allow someone an easier (and safer) merge if traffic is light though.

confused It already is an offence to throw anything out of a car. The offence is littering. People do get prosecuted for it, but obviously only when caught doing it. Like many similar offences, the odds of getting caught are quite low.
