A lot of drivers pay very little attention to their speed. If there is a car in front of them, they might well want to overtake it, but once they do, they lose interest again and go back to texting.
Agreed. I'm always amazed at how people blindly "convoy" - car at front of queue of in 30 limit doing say 37, all the lemmings behind doing 37.

I think sometimes people like others to make decisions for them. In this case, the decision seems to be "well, he must be local / he must know that's a safe speed to do round here", where "safe" in this context means that there are no cameras, rather than actually SAFE. This is quite a scary thought.

The goober in the red 63-plate Fiesta that I overtook on the A34 last night, four times.

I was on cruise control, my speed didn't vary at all. I'd been gaining on the Fiesta for a mile or two, probably about a five or ten mile an hour speed differential. I overtook the Fiesta and pulled back in, after a few seconds the Fiesta starts gaining on me, pulls out, overtakes, pulls back in front of me.

Nothing wrong with either of our maneuvers at all, perfectly safe and plenty of room given in both cases.

Then the Fiesta slows down, so I have to overtake it again.

This cycle repeats until I get my foot down on the final overtake and put some considerable distance between us, then when I settle back onto the cruise control at the same speed I was doing before the Fiesta just keeps dropping back.

What the actual fk was that all about?

I find a lot of drivers are lonely.
They see you in front quite a distance away (prob just over speed limit indicated) so rapidly speed up until they are on your bumper, then sit there for miles.

The emasculated twonk in a light blue A4, or Passat - can't remember exactly, on the M54 this morning.

It's down to 40mph with speed cameras as we're replacing the central reserve so have to run the hard shoulder with narrow lanes.

Anyway I'm in Lane 1, and we're moving along nicely at 42/43.. Lane 2 is moving at about 39/40, and this guy alongside me can't bear the fact that I'm 'passing' him at a differential of about 1 foot a mile.

So he's just blipping his throttle every few seconds so that the noses of our cars stay inline.. The difference being, the car in front of me was about 3 length ahead and doing the same speed as me, whereas the car in front of him wasn't, so he was basically tailgating the poor guy in front because he felt so offended by the idea of me 'undertaking' him. I did glance across briefly and he was giving me a death stare while just about keeping the corner of his eye on the road...

In his head, you were 'undertaking' him. Wrong, but I think most drivers wouldn't know the difference.

In roadworks I just go to lane 1, set the cruise to the limit and let the cretins duke it out.

They didnt see you or their speed as having a good yack on the phone!
At least the Fiesta was using the lanes correctly. I'd probably have expected him/her to stay in lane 2 after passing as seems to be common.

The person who pulled out in front of me, admittedly did eventually get up to 60, but then dribbled around every corner.

People who have absolutely no concept of what the word "average" means... as in "average speed"... as in brake testing that camera won't do you the slightest bit of good you muppet!

This

Which seems to have replaced this

as the default choice of chariot for blokes like this

For the past few weeks, the vast majority of tailgating, lane-hogging and generally aggressive driving I've encountered has been perpetrated by angry Phil Mitchell lookalikes driving a VW Amarok. Is it just me?confused

Is it bad driving?

There was a car in front of me and an mx5 alongside that. The car in front pulled away and I held back and let the 5 filter in but instead of the poxy panda filtering in behind me she was doing her utmost to get around me and in the process trying to force me into the verge. That in my opinion is bad driving. I merely used my performance advantage to redress what should have happened in the first place.
I dont think it is bad driving. Ive shortly got a Golf R arriving precisely so I can launch control these facks into the next decade.

Not sure if serious.

This is precisely why it is bad driving. Using launch control in that kind of setting is pretty much screaming "My small penis is being shown to be small! I don't care how much danger I create to prove it's not small!"

PS: Wrong thread for this but still worth saying again and again wear your bl&%dy seatbelts! (it's something that really bugs me and for the last 10 years I've no doubt puzzled may passengers by insisting they buckle up before I drive off).
Also those people who pull off and then try to put on their seatbelt, which usually causes them to drive at 50% or less of the speed limit or sit at a clear junction while they faff around.

Yesterday morning I had a tremendous knob tailgate me through my estate where it was sheet ice. He the proceeded to tailgate me all the way to work while using his mobile. Fortunately it turned out he worked in my building so his manager is getting the dashcam footage. I really hope he was using a company vehicle as he'll have it taken off him.
Snitch.
Was it you? The bloke sounds like a right tool. Although if the bloke worked in my building I'd have a word with him first, then depending on his attitude would take it up with the manager.
So why not inform the local constabulary?

Too right, what the hell is a companies HR department going to do plus knowing HR they will go to the bloke and say " oh mr X from this department has given us some footage from his dash cam because he thinks you drive like a knob"

Then you can have a fun conversation with Mr X about it.

The person in the Fiesta who took an age to overtake me on the A64 westbound near the end of last bit of duel carrigeway before York yesterday evening. Once they'd completed this mammoth task, they pulled in front and slowed down by braking.

If you want to go slower than me, stay behind me.

Luckily for me the lane they'd just left was empty, so with a quick squirt I was back round and in front. As we left the duel-carrigeway and I maintained a steady 60mph, they fell even further behind.

I did sent it to the plod but got the usual "dashcam footage isn't admissable in court" response, which is bks as the recent snow covered car video on the BBC has lead to the police investigating the incident. Since it's a company policy that you can't use a mobile in a company car our HR department have given this guy another warning, if this is his second warning and so he's now looking at potentially losing his job if he gets caught again and if it's his third he's a complete idiot. I would think that this has far more of a chance of making him stop than £100 and 3 points or a "phone awareness course".
