Good vid as always.

Agreed though... The latest incarnation of the SL doesn't look as good (To me) as previous models... I think its the nose.

I'd still rather an M5 over either of these... That's just 'cause I have a soft spot for uber-barge I guess.

But. If I was picking between the SL and the M6? I'd take the M6.

Good stuff Monkey.

Excellent vid! M6 anyday of the week though, couldn't live with the looks of SL. What on earth possessed Mercedes when they the ok on that? It just looks shockingly awful, especially in that chav matte paint.

Strange me saying this but I would go for the SL.

And I tested both the last sl500 and bmw 6, and went for the 6. But I don't like the way BMW are going at the moment.

Really nice video, I see you were using my local test track for quite a few shots there, along scotland road past monkey tree holiday park, Did you jump the bridge at the end at all. I could here you from where I work, I remember hearing the bmw shifting gear.
The pair of them sounded awesome.

Keep up the good work.

M6 looks better than what exactly?
Saw one at the local BMW dealer:"what a be-spectacled, slab sided, buttress of a beheamoth. It has all the physical grace of Mr Blobby on acid."

Great vid. Thanks!

I'd take the M6. The SL is pretty hard to tell apart from the SLK from head on.

Unfortunately that's the point. Audi are at it especially and so is everybody else. Make a small model and upsize it for the different classes.

Both cars in my eyes are excesses of everything and masters at nothing.

I think tabo should be banned forever. Even with my level of tolerance I found what he saying deeply offensive.

Nice vid and perspective on both cars. There are yet much more faults and compromises that these two have that need to be articulated, but it's just a short video. Thanks Chris!

Have a strange feeling he'd pop again soon enough with a different user.

You're right. Needs reported. Edit. Reported.

The problem is, just about all modern cars are munters. It is hard to think of anything apart from Astons & the ally XK8 that isn't. Discuss...

Bruno Sacco called it " horizontal affinity". It makes sense when you think about it; these manufacturers want you to trade up to bigger models through the years ~ start in a 3-series, end up in a 6 or 7 with a higher profit margin. So they want to offer you something that looks vaguely like the car you already bought (and therefore like).

The M6, in fact the 6 series is the ugliest car built this side of the millenium, sorry chris I know you love BMW

Brilliant video Chris - the slow-mo drifts gave me goosebumps... amazing.

SL for me, even though the M6 is, as you say, better looking.

Good vid, prefer the M6, just don't like the front end of the SL, rear I can live with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the previous hot SL have a V12?

I think styling is relative here. I think the Merc looks more dated but sharper. Styling the M6 after a huge duvet does nothing for me. Fortunately, I am not in their target demographic so thyey care even less than I do. wink

This confused me. That would make sense if it used an open diff with brake application (e-diff) but he also states it uses a mechanical diff.

Great video, SL63 for me. It's not (quite) so much of a munter in the metal, and the interior really is lovely!

I've seen a few of the new SL on the roads and had a good nose around an SL63 AMG in a showroom a couple of weeks ago. It looks a lot better in the metal than it does in photos, but he 6 is still the better looking of the two though. Not sure I would buy either new, but they will be great secondhand buys in a few years time
