That's a lovely car, but looks so wrong with cloth interior!

600 SEL is a rare, lovely beast. The earlier models (1991 - 1993) had the more powerful V12 with 408 bhp, and the later models were detuned slightly to 389 bhp.

The engine is a masterpiece, and aback in 1991, there was nothing else really out there that could touch this beast.
How did the dealer let that out of the showroom with cloth on it's seats?
Probably because that's how the customer wanted it.

Velours is much nicer than leather, much more luxurious. But you don't know that because the marketing people have told you that you want plastic leather.
I dunno, a case can be made for both. You will have the leather mafia and the velour mafia argue until the cows come home about what used to be the more luxurious option - fact is alot of cars were delivered with soft premium quality leather, and others again were delivered with high quality velour.

For me velour just doesnt look right in a luxury vehicle, others again will parade its practical advantages ( more comfortable etc).

The velours wears out very quickly and then looks awful, whereas leather can get better with age. And I'd have to accept the nappa leather in my 129 is lovely stuff. A lot of the modern leather, like in a new E-Class, is pretty rubbish, though.

Great sotw. Love merc's of this era...had a few over the years but last year came across a mint 2 owner w126 with 54k, bought it as a keeper.

Rarely has the phrase they don't make them like they used to been so apt.

This one just went for £2k which makes me very happy as I paid £700 for mine two years ago, and mine is in great condition and has 50k fewer miles on it.

The 2.0 autos are still around at very little money. The 16v models have shot up in value in the last two years.

Still a third of a good M3 though.

So? You really think 200k is a lot?
My sister had a Audi 80 1.6D before and that has gone past 400k as she knows the guy who now owns it.
Now she has a Bora that has passed 200k long time ago.
My brother in law has a Seat that's just gone past 200k.
Neither had a rebuild. Both are VAG's 1.9 TDI.
My dad had a Volvo 240D some years back. Lasted over 350k without a rebuild and through significant time it was used as a tow car. And after a rebuild it kept on going.

200k might be a wishful thinking on modern cars but for 80s and 90s stuff it was pretty common.
Also, go on mobile(dot)de and see how many cars are well over 300kkm (so around 200k miles). People on the continent do drive and rack up miles, not like here in UK where a diesel can have 50k after a decade.
