Anyone else enter the Evo comp to win some track tuition?

I seem to have won a runners up prize!

A FREE TUITION SESSION WITH EX F1 DRIVER IAN ASHLEY AND THE TEAM

As a runner up you will be coached on how to drive like a professional racing driver, starting off in BMW M3’s Ian and the team will coach both through practical and theory sessions the art of racing. This unique and exclusive session will give you an in-depth knowledge of what it takes to be in the shoes of Hamilton and Button and experience the high octane thrills of professional race drivers.

The session will include:

All vehicles
Safety briefing
Familiarisation laps
Safety equipment
Professional Instruction
Fuel
Track Time
Tea / Coffee and light refreshments
The session will run from MIRA’s secret Test facility in Nuneaton. This is where the likes of Jason Plato touring car champion and McLaren British GT3 team do there testing before their race seasons. This state of the art facility is also home to major manufactures such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley and the MOD where all prototype vehicles are tested and certified.
I think I'm justified in saying that this would start the alarm bells ringing.

Ok just to close this off.

I just called up, and they started to congratulate me before they even knew my name - seems amazing they could know I had won something eh?

The did the spiel as mentioned on Evo, and explained it was a "full day" but then went on to say 4-5 hours.

They failed to mention it was 3 to a car, but others have been told this.

I was then told I needed to buy the insurance for £199.

The car is an E46 M3, not the E90 M3 pictured in the email.

Evo should be ashamed of themselves for being associated with something so blatantly NOT a prize in any way shape or form.

Yep, I got this email too. Scammier than a scammy thing.

One competition winner, then everybody else who entered gets a “runner up prize” that requires expensive insurance on your part. No chance.

Evo have really gone to town on the dodgy competitions angle, haven’t they? Not that long ago, they stopped running competitions on their own website and outsourced the whole lot to a dodgy spam ‘prize draws’ company. I get emails now from ‘Evo Competitions’ for all sorts of absolute tat. Hardly any of it’s even car related.

I had an e-mail too so called them today...

10 mins of sales pitch, telling me about how I'll start the day in a BMW E46 M3 then move in to a GT3 Cup car and the progress in to the "Million pound Ascari KZ1"!!rofl
The only snag was that "MIRA make all drivers take out a £50 million public liability cover which covers you against any damage if you hit the barriers or smash in to a prototype etc....which is a cost that we unfortunately have to pass on to you"

And how much will that cost? £199.00!!!

Now I don't remember even entering this competition on Evo's website (although I don't doubt that it's a possibility) and the amount of people I'm seeing on FB, Pistonheads and other forums does give a strong hint to this being spam e-mail that they send out to drum up business.

I'll be contacting Evo with my thoughts as I'm amazed they'll be happy to be associated with a company that conducts itself in such a way!

Pathetic.

Actually, for the chance to drive a KZ1 I'd pay £200. That's a rare, and utterly fantastic car.

Give them a call. I'm sure they'd be happy to include you as a runner-up... even if you never entered.

And I will be too. And to Harry on twitter.

Massively devaluing their brand. I got the mail too, said to my wife that "it sounds dodgy or I've been lucky. Surely Evo wouldn't be dodgy, though?"

Very poor form on Evo's part.

I messaged Harry (and Trott) we'll see if they have an opinion.

Indeed. HM tweet indicates he knows nothing about it, and will investigate tomorrow. I get a lot of email scams (had one today actually), and am naturally suspicious of anything I don't remember initiating. It's usually a scam, no matter how convincing the presentation.

Positive response from Harry, keen to hear his thoughts on it.

I'd happily exchange my 'win' for a weekend in Harry's GT-S smile

You'd hope so, but not these days. Likewise "M3's". Gah!

Yes, that too, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that Ian could belong to the M3...
