Mark just called and managed to make it worse.

Avoided answering question on how many people had won.

Didnt know who Harry Metclafe was.

Thought I was unreasonable to expect insurance to be included "if you won a car would you expect it to be insured?".

Hi Mark.

I already spoke to one of your representatives yesterday.

1. He congratulated me on winning the runners up prize before he knew my name.
2. He told me 20 people had won this - but over 20 people on a Pistonheads thread alone have already confirmed receiving the "prize".
3. I am very confident that rules on UK competitions have been broken, when to claim your prize, you have to spend £199 on insurance/membership.

When I called I wasn't told that the drive would be shared with 3 other people, but other people have been told this.

I have also been in contact with Harry Metcalfe who has stated he knew nothing of this. Surprising.

A number of people on this forum have expressed concern about the offer of a ‘free runners up prize’ as a follow-up to the evo competition to win a full days tuition with Supercar Lifestyle. I have subsequently spoken to a Director at Supercar Lifestyle to understand the nature of the runners up prize and the costs involved. The original winner has been picked and he will get a full day learning how to drive a GT3 car (This is completely free to the winner with no costs incurred)

Evo were not aware of the subsequent ‘prize’ that was going to be made available to all entrants, but we did share the entrants data with Supercar Lifestyle in return for running the original competition with us. That was included in the terms and conditions and is normal practice. I do think that Supercar Lifestyle could have worded their email better and should not have gave the impression that individuals had won a free runners up prize when in actual fact everybody who had entered was offered the same deal and there was a real cost to participate.

That said, the offer is a genuine one and for you to make a decision on whether to be involved or not. The four hour session (plus one hour for lunch) is based on three people sharing a BMW M3 with an instructor for the whole period, under the guidance of Ian Ashley. The four hours will include Driving, Observation and theory. The costs for the day (track time, vehicles, fuel, medic, refreshments, instructors etc) are being borne by Supercar Lifestyle and the £199 is to pay for car insurance, personal insurance, passes for 2 for MIRA (inc. guest), and membership of the Supercar Lifestyle Club. This covers people for a 12 month duration.

On behalf of evo and Supercar Lifestyle we would like to apologise to anyone who were given the false impression that this was a genuine 'free' runners up prize, but the offer of tuition is genuine and remains available. We would like to make it clear to everyone that there is a contribution to insurance cost of £199. Evo were not aware of the offer that was going to go out to all losing entrants and we would have requested Supercar Lifestyle to make the offer more explicit. I do not, however, believe that the offer is a scam and the day could be exciting.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Geoff.

Evo and Supercar lifestle have dropped a huge clanger here.

They have lied.
They have said people are runners up, when in actual fact they have spammed every single person who entered
As above Evo appears to have given details without proper reference to the data protection act.
Supercar Lifestyle have almost certainly broken rules pertaining to "prizes", and having to pay £199 to become a member is in my view a scam

Sorry folks, it may be the bottle of red talking but this stinks of Evo covering for Supercar Lifestyle. They deliberately tried to deceive and got caught out.

It wasnt a "prize", as everyone was sent the email (pertaining to have "won").

A prize does not require you to pay (over the odds) for insurance and a years subscription to something you don't need/want/wont use.
£199 for a shared 4-5 hour "day" (with 2 other people) drive, over lunch, with briefing, is poor value.
The email showed an E90 M3. The day is in an E46 M3.
If the operators pay £200 a head (£600 per car) for insurance, they need to find a new broker.
A quick google of this company shows lots of people complaining of hanging around, not getting drives and being short changed.

Poor show all round, and there are far better ways of spending two hundred quid.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I would make the following observations. Don't try to "blow this off" as a nothing issue, because it's not. There has been what amounts to fradulent activity here, because your counterparty company has lied to people.

1. This makes EVO look sh t. It makes you appear the same as all the other knobjockey companies who flog your details to anyone with a few quid. That may very well be not what happened, but the perception is there. I'm pretty sure Harry hasn't built his extensive businesses by treating people like this, or by entering into relationships with companies that do while using his brands.

2. The company you're dealing with are very clearly at least at the limit of what's commercially acceptable, and in my view way beyond it, because they quite clearly mislead people when they call up (let's call it what it is, a lie). This sort of "prize" where a payment is required to claim it is just not playing things with a straight bat, and telling people they have "won one of the runner up prizes" when in fact they spammed all and sundry is sharp practice. EVO's brand is all over this. See 1.

3. They can't even spell FFS.

I've always liked EVO, it's a cut above the dross, but in general terms its readers are fairly savvy and won't apprecite this sort of tosspottery.

If I was you I'd be looking at your contract with them (I assume you have one - I'd be happy to look at it) to seek redress from them for making EVO look like chancers, which I don't believe you are.

What a load of nonsense you all talk on here !!!! 4 hrs tuition off Ian Ashley and all you have to pay is 200 for insurance you will moan about anything enough said !!!!
Thanks for sticking your head above the parapet.

It isn't 4 hours tuition though is it, if you are sharing the car with 2 other people, then statistically you will only get time for less than 2 hours?

As has been said numerous times on this thread, if you had offered it for what it is, straight up, then there would not be a problem. The issue is that you LIED, suggesting people had won something and that it was a prize. Neither was true.

I've been to one of SCL's track days at MIRA, whatever any of you do, DO NOT pay, DO NOT go.

I booked a deal through Groupon for a 'full day', plus I paid extra on an upsell phone call to drive a Gallardo, which wasn't there, felt very cheated as it was specifically sold to me - they called me, I didn't call them.

The 'full day' turned out to be a couple of hours by the time I finally got my allocation time through. That is, it's a couple of hours of waiting around and a few minutes in the cars. I've never seen anything as disorganised or frustrating, getting pople in the cars in any sort of order was a shambles. It doesn't even begin to compare with places like Thruxton, where you can get a great day on a great track for your £200. I ended up getting half of my money back as it was so poor at MIRA with SCL.

I've been to quite a few track days, both in my own cars and also experience days. SCL are by far and away the worst, plus the SCL track at MIRA or, to more accurately describe it, the area marked out with cones in the centre of the proving ground, was a joke. Very narrow, difficult to sight, generally not very enjoyable.

Don't part with your money for it.

Plus, oddly enough, this £200 insurance they're saying you HAVE to purchase was being upsold on the day I went, only it was £30 and optional - it's got nothing to do with MIRA...

If I was EVO I'd be backing well away from SCL.
Thanks for the heads up.

All this boils down to is this.

If these Supercar johnnies had got consent to marketing, and had contacted and said "hey dude we see you didn't win the competition, but if you'd like to take up an offer of a day for £199 then you're welcome" then there would have been no issue.

The problem is that they didn't - they contacted people saying they'd won something when they hadn't, and then asking for £199 for their "prize".

Just sh t behavour.
exactly.

I assume Ian, having joined here yesterday you work for SCL?

Out of interest, how many people did you send the "you've won a runners up prize" to?

also,

Which insurers do you use for it to cost £199 PP for 3 sharing a car with an instructor?

Congratlations at completely missing the point.

At no point have I said that people havent used your services and enjoyed them.

The issue which you have chosen to ignore is:

Your (I assume you work for SCL) company DELIBERATELY tried to mislead people into thinking they had won something, when in fact you had sent the email to every person who entered.

The above is possibly in breach of UK competition rules, as well as data protection rules.

Your email failed to mention that the day would be shared with 2 other people.

Your email showed an E90 when in fact the day is in an E46.

It is not a "whole day", but "4-5 Hours".

When I called I was lied to again (after being congratulated before you knew my name) and told that only 20 people were runners up.

Finally a "prize" is not a prize if you are made to spend two hundred quid to take compulsory insurance and annual membership of your discount club.

If you had, as others have suggested, sent out an email saying "sorry you havent won, but we'd like to offer you a great opportunity for just £199", you may have gained a far more positive reaction.

So, how about answering these points and saying sorry to the people you spammed, rather than posting up irrelevant reviews of your service?

Edo you are certainly a trouble maker ! Because you have seen a different m3 in an old picture does that mean that's the one your driving ?
No one at Supercar is saying you will be driving for 4/5 hrs that would dangerous the day last 5 hrs 4 of which is tuition which comprises of driving observation and theory I can tell you no little to nothing about Motorsport or you would understand this
The 199 is insurance and passes for Mira which lasts for 12 mth this is mandatory at Mira for tuition /high speed training / wet grip surfaces but not for normal Supercar driving experiences
Supercar have apologised for the way the competition was run it wasn't ment to deceive anybody but to give people a chance to have race tuition at a leading venue by first class instructors
On this occasion Supercar got their marketing wrong and they apologised this doesn't make Supercar a bad company their staff work extremely hard to give people a good experience
But edo your like a dog with a bone Stirling things up even when the forum is quiet you keep having a go !
So in short ,,,, on this occasion Supercar got it wrong , in general there a good company with lots of happy customers .
So edo let's leave it at that ......
Thanks for the apology. Appreciated. This is the first apology from anyone from SCL for clarity - unless I missed it elsewhere in the thread?

I first heard of Supercar Life style when I won a similar track day event. I had a fantastic day driving many super cars including a Ferrari, Lamborghini, GTR, Porche

Since then I have become a member & have been for over a year. I have been on an amazing holiday to Spain at the Circuito Guandix including two days of driving many similar super cars. With many other petrol heads.

I having now been having tuition with amongst other instructors Ian Ashley who is the best instructor of them all & I would highly recommend having tuition with him as I have learnt so much. Including learning heel & toeing & left foot braking.

Because my driving improved so much last year the owner John gave me the chance to drive his own full blown race prepared Ascari at no expense to me but great risk to him. Which was awesome & I couldn't stop grining from ear to ear.

I was also given the chance to drive my own Skyline round their track at no expense to me with Ian Ashley.

This year I'm hoping to take the MSA qualification & maybe become an instructor or join a TVR racing team.

Give these guys a chance I thoroughly recommend them.
