Harry didn't seem to know about it.

Still, Evo does seem to be a mess these days

I'm another runner up as well.

Called them up to claim my prize and was told that the original competion was just for the main prize but as there were over 3,500 entries EVO had asked for Supercar Lifestyle to add some runners up events.

Apparantly there are 30 runners up and I was offered a choice of 6 dates - so presumably five people per day?

The £199 insurance only came up at the end of the conversation (surprise)!.

I was initially quite excited but now it does look more style over substance. It'll be interesting to hear back from Harry et al at EVO.

I 'won' this as well... Shame, as was genuinely excited at first!

Oh dear. Only one winner here isn't there??

I won a 1 hour track experience with the AMG C63 with Mercesdes last year. I finally booked it a few weeks ago. Do you know how much I had to contribute? £0.00 smile

I could of paid £15 as a waiver to the £1500 damage/accident excess I was liable for. I could of paid £30 to have it filmed, I could of paid £115 to upgrade to the black series... But I didn't.

It's awesome by the way, and if you want to do it yourself and pay for it It costs £199. biggrin

You'd hope so, but not these days. Likewise "M3's". Gah!
Yes, that too, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that Ian could belong to the M3...
I don't want to 'start off' in an Ian, whoever Ian belongs to. eeuugh.

I'd be interested to know if Evo back up that statement.

I'd also be interested to know how many people there are on here alone who are "runners up".

I also won this prize and like most of you was very excited about it at first. Right up until the point they wanted £199 for insurance.

How about all of us who won went to Adrian Flux or REIS and got them to do a bulk discount on the insurance. It must be less than the £199 they want. We could then go back and claim our prize. I wonder if they would still honour it?

OK, the filming and the upgrade are fair enough, but why scam £15 off people for the damage waiver?

@edwowen As ever, not as straightforward as hoped but will get it sorted. Really sorry I didn't know what was going on earlier..

The only snag was that "MIRA make all drivers take out a £50 million public liability cover which covers you against any damage if you hit the barriers or smash in to a prototype etc....which is a cost that we unfortunately have to pass on to you"

And how much will that cost? £199.00!!!
If they are actually paying £199 per driver for the insurance (which seems unlikely) then all well and good. However I imagine the risk of 3rd party damage there is very small - a barrier crash would probably be cheaper than a repair on the motorways (even with loss of revenue), and I doubt the prototypes are out at the same time as driving experience days, or parked anywhere near them.

The wording "cost that we have pass on to you" implies they are not making a profit or changing any significant handling fee for the insurance...

Add me to the list, I was a 'lucky' runner-up.

Totally unrelated to evo, or this (alleged) scam, or to Harry M, or anything - but the MB-world brooklands thing is brilliant.
I did my hour in an AMG SL63. It was £125 (they were doing a deal at the time). Well worth it.

100% agree. Although it is worth noting as I forgot to mention in the original post that they did say it would cover me for an entire year at any race track across the UK. How true that is though remains to be seen, but I get the feeling that I wouldn't want to present my 'policy' after whacking a barrier at say Cadwell park...

I have Public Liability Cover with a company I'm involved with as we work at race tracks all over the UK and Europe which covers up to £15,000,000 and that is just under £300 per year, so £50 million for £199.00 is just a bit too cheap but the alarm bells were already ringing when he referred to the Million pound Ascari KZ1...

Rather than e-mail EVO I (along with others) tweeted this thread to Harry yesterday so it's great to see he's taking action and hopefully these scammers get more than just a telling off!

As part of the patter to justify the insurance they said that they previously had someone go through a barrier into the prototype Evoque!

Anyway, I've asked them for a copy of the policy..........

I'm also a 'runner-up' (I think they told me there was only 20!) and it's pretty shoddy to slip in the £199 insurance charge. Presumably if they are genuinely giving the day away for free, if you could get the cover from else they'd still have to honour it - I imagine that would be very tricky though. As it is I'm pretty reluctant to go ahead - the whole thing leaves a bad taste

Not bad that 15 are on this thread already!
