It has to be the Bugatti Type 25 where they ran against the accepted practice and put lightweight wheels on while their competitors were trying to make them as heavy as possible:

It helps that wheels were as delicate and beautiful as the car they were fitted to.

It has to be these. So many memories of racing my Scalextric version in this Texaco livery as a kid; it was always a bit faster and looser than the Shell one.

+1 - excellent choice sir!

The wheels on rally cars are not particularly light because they need to be very strong.

The difference between lightweight racing alloys and heavy duty rally wheels is nothing like as much as you think - both are way, way stronger than regular monkey-metal road alloys. Not much to do with the design and so much more to do with the materials.

Technically the best strength to weight ratio was established for Lotus about 40(ish) years ago with the "Y" spoked design.

Maybe because it was outside the regs. (I didn't know the Scalextric models were that accurate...) wink

Watanabe wheels. Nom. I've got a set of dinky 14" Wats from one of my old Cappuccino's to go on a project....

ETA:

I also love both of these sets of wheels (Biased)

The Rostyles Look great in my opinion (yes they're not wires but that's not the point)...
And the Shiny Steelies on the rail aren't too bad either (deep dish on the back end)
