RE: PH Blog: deep dish
Discussion
The race wheels with the extra clip on cooling discs have a real 'race spec' look to them (for lack of a better phrase). Quite surprised there hasn't been any aftermarket stuff turned up like that to be honest, the wheel frisbees had been on the f1 cars for quite a while too you'd have thought someone would have tried making something!

For me it's the early 80's Group 5 cars that have the nicest wheels on them. Many examples are already posted like the BMW 320 / BMW M1 and Porsche 935 but for me it must be those cars that entered the japanese based Fuji Silhouette Cup that take the cake. Many nice ones but especially the Silvia with them Hoshino deep dishes on it.

The wheels are pretty epic as well.
Some info on the Silvia here: http://www.tomeipowered.com/BTE/index.php/2011/07/...
And a little bit on the Skyline here: http://www.nissan-dubai.com/en/web/heritage/skylin...
Looks like Ebbro do pretty smart looking diecasts of both which would look pretty awesome amongst the bric-a-brac on my mantel piece.

Also like pointed out in my first post they ran under group 5 regulations so you can always look at the wiki page to find more makes/models that had those wide aero bodykits and cool dished out wheels.

The difference between lightweight racing alloys and heavy duty rally wheels is nothing like as much as you think - both are way, way stronger than regular monkey-metal road alloys. Not much to do with the design and so much more to do with the materials.
I service for a team with two Tarmac/Gravel rally cars, who have a mix of Compomotive and OZ/Sparco motorsport wheels which are pretty heavy things. You can't get away with super lightweight wheels on a rally car, they wouldn't last 5 minutes.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
