^That is true. Plus, I'm not even sure the kind of customer who'd go for the Alfa would even consider a Boxster/Cayman/911? Unlikely, IMO.

The 4C is very much Alfa's lead-in to the US market. Think of it as "Look at how awesome we are - now go and buy what is in essence a very expensive Dodge Dart."
WHAT????? A Dodge Dart? Where the hell do you get that from? As much as the Dart and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta share a platform this does not make them in any way the same thing or close variants of the same thing. The level of quality of fittings, engines, materials, glass even can differ massively as can the way the finished product looks, not to mention the ride and 'dynamics'. Considering the Dart doesn't share the same wheelbase or track as the Alfa anyway that is one simple pointer to indicate they may be very different cars in the way they drive! Look at the top spec Dart GT and Giulietta Cloverleaf engines - are these the same? NO! On looks too it is obvious which is the more attractive car and that is yet another reason why a Giulietta is not just an expensive Dart.

People on here make me sick (not have a pop specifically at dave, many others on here) - an Alfa is a Fiat is a GM is a Chrysler but an Audi is not a Skoda is not a Seat is not a Volkswagen - that's the mantra on here. People seem to think that sharing platforms makes each variant the same thing (but when VAG do it this doesn't apply), or that an engine shared by two models has to be in the exact same stage of tune in both cars or the engines cannot be different blocks entirely! Even if two cars share the same body-in-white there are many many ways in which the two cars can be differently set up to perform worlds apart. Plus all the default references to Lotus and Porsche - judge each and every car on it's own merits and don't slavishly believe the 'benchmark' default choice is the best car and that nothing else is allowed.

Yes, the Dart. The Giulietta is a foul looking car.

I'm sure you'll find a lot of people (with good taste) disagree with that statement. The same people who can tell that a 4C does not look like a Lotus and the same people who wouldn't buy a Lotus on the grounds that they are awkward looking little things.

I agree with everything you say, unfortunately you are fighting a losing battle when it comes to defending Alfa. I they made the fastest, safest, most reliable, economical car in the world and sold it for £5 people would still say "yeah but it'll rust in 10 minutes" ergo, people are dicks, let them drive they're £30,000 golf with rings on

I agree with this... coming from someone currently driving a Golf with rings on (S3). Although I have also owned more Alfas than any other make.

Why would the fact that I own (although the wife might object to that word) something make me view it as more pretty than it is? My house is a horrible square box; my shoes are foot-shaped black things;... I doubt anyone would call my car attractive either for that matter, myself included.

The Alfas have been on whole nice looking, the Guilietta being one of the better ones. Don't think much of the 8c, they put the proportions of a much smaller car on to this huge thing, so with it's bulbousness overspilling every which way it look like it has had an allergic reaction.

Funny but that's exactly how I'd describe the Mito and Giulietta. And the Brera for that matter. smile

A thin-on-facts story about headlights: http://www.autoedizione.com/alfa-romeo-4c-will-be-...

we can expect many other things from the 4C over the next years. There will be something to everybody’s liking, for example headlights which will resemble the ones we saw on the concept car in 2011.

Think I'm getting used to the bug-eye headlights now.

I'm certainly not - utterly foul looking things.

If they can produce more conventional looking lights, it will widen the appeal of the car quite significantly, IMO.

I got used to them too, although I always thought they were acceptable. The Alfaowner lot reckon we're stuck with the the current lights for various reasons, including type approval and space behind. AE is generally accurate though.

Apparently Alfa think there are thousands of frustrated buyers out there who want to pay £20k more than a Elise for a car that goes... like an Elise.

Good luck with that. At £54k I'd be looking at a year old M3 or something bigger, comfier, more reliable and above all quicker than a fking Alfa.

Well, they've sold all 300 "Launch" versions, which alone is probably cars than Lotus have sold this year. I'd say luck seemed to be on their side...

Alfa will not struggle to find buyers. I have no doubt they will sell all they can make.

Comfier? Don't buy a CF 900kg sports car...

And the e92 m3 has the same power to weight ration as the 4c. And a better one than a Cayman S.

So yeah...
