As this is a performance car, there will be very many cars below its price that will be able to outperform it.
To be fair, the same is true of all of it's competition and they still sell OK. If you want a car that goes fast in a straight line for £50k, you buy an Evo. I think 250bhp/tonne is the same as the new Cayman S and I don't think anyone is doubting that that will sell.

But thats the thing, a Cayman S is a Porsche. And unfortunately you can't really compare a 'brand' like Porsche to an Alfa Romeo (PistonHeader's can) but the buyer of this type of car will most likely not look twice at the Alfa, hence the price is key.I think 250bhp/tonne is the same as the new Cayman S and I don't think anyone is doubting that that will sell.

Probably true, but that doesn't make it under-powered. If it had 350bhp instead, many buyers still wouldn't look anywhere except the Porsche showroom. It's been proven time and time again that competing head-on with Porsche doesn't really work, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the product in question, just the momentum of the Porsche brand.
Morons. Once again Alfa manage to shoot themselves in the foot.
So in the end all they have done is drop in the same unit and power and fall back on the NVH excuse. This was the rumour I got from the stand last yr and I told them they were idiots if they went down that route.
They had something unique. They have developed it into an underpowered, more expensive Cayman. Bellends. I cannot believe they have watched Lotus use this method to fail to match Porsche for yrs. Lotus finally recognise their error, say OK, we'll still make our product lighter than the opposition, but now we will give it the same level of grunt or more than yours and fk off into the distance.
Dear Alfa...the £50k Exige? ITS GOT 350 fkING PONIES YOU BRAINDEAD HALFWITS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goddam it Im annoyed and unlike most opinions on here I am a fking customer for this bloody car! I KNEW they would fk it up. Unbelievable! And no, I dont care how it drives because I already know the Lotus will drive, ride and handle better than the 4C, it does everything else.

One of the reasons I really hope this does well is to chip away at this pernicious way of thinking - which basically amounts to "if you want anything special, you can only have it if the Germans build it, because special things are only worth what they cost if they are German". kambites said:

I would be lovely if that was the case, but sadly I think that attitude is so deeply ingrained in the UK public's psyche that this will go the way of all the other cars that have tried to compete. otolith said:

For me personally its not about that, im just saying how this car at this price point will be perceived by the money buying public (not pistonheader's). It doesn't appear to be very good value for money that is all.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
