Glass roof?
Exactly what I was thinking. No lacquer on the carbon as it's too heavy but a panoramic roof is ok?? Or is it special lightweight McLaren glass? laugh

Looks like a MP4 to me, just with a bit more carbon.

Meh.

I am sure the car will be amazing, although imho massively overstyled compared to the MP4-12.

But what the original press release says about the steering wheel must rank as the pinnacle of marketing bulls*it. Ever.

WTF is a "technically precise diameter"? WTF? WTF?

Here the original:
"The steering wheel diameter is as technically precise as a McLaren racing driver’s wheel. This is because past McLaren world champions’ grips were modelled on a CAD system and scanned to produce an exact replica."

But... bare carbonfibre is fine for looks and weight-saving - and *cough* build-cost-saving - but won't it also be a 'mare for fingerprints? eek

(OCD, moi?)
Matte carbon is as wipe-cleanable as shiny carbon, or indeed any other non-porus inert surface. ...
Wipe-cleanable it may be, but IME bare carbonfibre is absolutely beastly for fingerprints, they will still show - it'll be a sea of smudges and smears. Quelle horreur! headache

McLaren claims that leaving the carbon fibre lacquer-free has resulted in a 1.5kg weight saving
And yet it still has aircon and satnav?

Tbh, better to keep the lacquer and just take a sachet of picolax the night before you drive it.

So much want for this car.

So much better looking than the new Enzo which is getting the corporate lights from the 458 et al.

1.5kg just from omitting lacquer to the carbon fibre?

That "floating" centre console is straight out of the Volvo C30.

Hmm, for the most part, the P1's cabin is cool, but it's obvious that McLaren has been associated with Microsoft for too long - the display's fonts/layout/spacing etc are a tad grim.

Am I the only one who thinks someone from the council have gone wild with the wheelie bin interior? Remember Carbon Fiber is plastic nothing more! E-Poxy and Polymer resins!

Well it is a bit more than just plastic. It contains carbon fibres for a start...

Had a sit in this yesterday. The sense of purpose you get from the huge amount of unlacquered CF is palpable and I love how simplistic it is - function before form, everywhere. Driving position is spot on, unsurprisingly.

3 cup holders for good measure wink

Indeed, it's reinforced plastic. Because reinforcement is so important for bits of interior trim... hehe
