I never have and never will understand the point of spending a lot of money to reproduce a sound stage in one of the worst acoustic environments to listen to music. Burmester make some sublime hi-fi equipment though.
Because some of us like listening to music on a quality sound system with as much accurate frequency reproduction as possible whilst driving? My car hi-fi is probably the single most important set of speakers I have for my line of work and although I'm fortunate enough to use high-end ATC's/PMC's which are brutally accurate the real litmus test for my work is always how it sounds in the car.

Love it! Sadly, I need to earn more dollar to be able to afford one, and don't do nearly enough miles to warrant splashing £50k+ on a new car.

Be interesting to see how the 2nd hand current (soon to be previous) gen prices do in the next year, could be tempted by an 'R' for around £30k in the future. smile

I didn't until I passangered a road trip in a Clio that had £2,500 of JL audio equipment that was professionally installed. The next car I plan to keep long term will be treated to a fully upgraded sound system. When I got back in my car it sounded like a shower radio.

I'm sure it's a great car but I've never liked the design of the last Cayman and this looks even worse. Whe=atever happened to pretty cars like the Alfa 8c....

Is it wrong to say I would take this car over a standard 911.

Engine in the Cayman/Boxster is a flat 6, no?
You guys are right of course, it's a flat 6. Must have been thinking of something else when I typed it.

Good point, price of a new well specced Cayman S will be within spitting distance of a used standard 991 - horses for courses.

It isnt. A base Carrera (non S) is now £73k, and that is before you even put sat nav on it..

You can get a VERY well Spec'd Cayman S for comfortably under £60k, which is not IMHO spitting distance.

I forgot to put used 991. The gap narrows then.

In which case the gap is even greater - over 20k.

Of course a used car is always cheaper than a new car. Once out for a few months a used Cayman will be cheaper still. Pointless argument.

I am glad you think that those spending £60k on a Cayman S will not be looking at the obvious alternatives. IMO OPC's will use the opportunity to shift a few slow moving 991's.

I'm wondering if this is going to be as big a hit with the general public as the Boxster was originally?

I hope so but worried it's going to appeal to the "hardcore" fraternity more and not sell in the same numbers.

That is a beautiful car, much nicer then the Gen 1 Cayman S,

I had a Cayman S for 6 weeks, and can't see what the fuss is about...... my 996 Turbo is a much much better car all round, road presence, speed, looks, handling, toys, AND it's a 911

I personally would take the new Boxster over the Cayman mainly as the benefits the Cayman has over the Boxster would mean nothing to me, i doub't i'd ever drive the Boxster hard enough for me to be thinking that it would be better with more rigidity, i'm sure both cars are far more capable than i am skilled/brave, therefore i'd take Boxster as i imagine with the roof down for the sort of driving i'd do in it i.e. not going at 10/10ths on track it would be more fun

wouldn't say no to either though, other than the styling it seems a far better package than all the similarly priced competitors

This is probably right, and the bonus is that unlike every other make/model the convertible is cheaper!

Not a problem as such, purely if they make as many as demanded and that demand is in similar numbers to 986/996's then the values of them will drop to much more attainable levels.

If they don't make that many and it's a proper toy that people in the know covet, then it's going to stay expensive.

Look at the BS and CR, holding values pretty well. Even the Cayman/S are still holding good money for the time being.

If these appeal to everyone, the chances of them becoming more affordable second hand greatly improves.

Still not what I'd call beautiful, it just doesn't have that "last look over the shoulder" factor for me but it's definitely a huge improvement over the last one.

This car IS the reason why so many other sports cars in this price range fail. Brilliant handling, powerful bespoke V6 engine which loves to rev and build quality that other manufactures can only dream of. Lotus and Alfa et al, take note!
Yes totally agree theres nobody who will beat this for the money.
