With 3k change to spend on the inevitable factory backed mountune kit I doubt it...
If I was 21 I'd consider an ST, but I just think the styling on the Clio is more grown up. I actually like the shape of it regardless of the 8 pages or so of bashing that follows every thread about it.5 doors are convenient, and I think they look as good as three doors anyway.
I've had a Mountune kit before and while it was fast, it made the car a more unpleasant place to be. It was too loud and the hard suspension actually made it less usable on the road (though admittedly excellent on a track).
Also, by the time you add a Mountune kit, you're almost at the price of the Clio anyway.

Nail -> Head. If this car was perfect, the people who are knocking it still wouldn't buy it because of the badge, or the cost or they simply don't like this class of car. It's quite ridiculous they've reacted so fiercely against it actually. And it's actually 36kg lighter according to the press release.
I'd bet if had a nice badge and in a subtle colour, suddenly it would look nicer (since everyone needs to impress clients
P.S anyone got any old vs new weight figure? How have they managed to shed weight too?

Nice effort, that looks much better...funny that one forum post is all you need to show up Renault's entire design department. Post an email address, see if you get a job out of it Gucciclio said:

Renault official figure for the new car is 1,204kg, without any options. In the press material they're claiming a 36kg weight saving over the outgoing car. Oh, and my old 172 Cup was 1,021kg. And that comfortably did 40mpg on a run too. So much for progress eh? OK, it did try to kill me on occasion but that kept things interesting.
Cheers,
Dan

I'd echo those comments re: MPG, i've had lots of 172's and the cup versions would do very high 30's or touch 40 on a run with no real effort on the part of the driver. Seems that manufacturers blindly focus on lower engine capacities and turbos as the way to achieve better MPG. Be nicer if they focused on weight. Oh, and my old 172 Cup was 1,021kg. Not read the whole thread but is it thought there will be a lightweight 'Cup' version of the new model?

Safety regs have come a long way since then Edited by Dan Trent on Friday 15th February 13:36
You'd be better off if the worst happens in a new Clio than in an old one!

That was the old one which was n/a the new one is turbo so the kit will just be a remap and maybe a k&n to get it up to the clio's power. I suspect the kit will be circa £1500 so still cheaper than the Clio and in my eyes better looking.5 doors are convenient, and I think they look as good as three doors anyway.

I didn't like the old fiesta st and got the clio instead but for me now the tides have changed with the ford looking far more appealing to myself...

Clio 172 still has 4 airbags and is a 4* car it was very safe for it's time and still pretty good today. You'd be better off if the worst happens in a new Clio than in an old one!
Echo the mpg comments mine is used for hooning or sat in traffic jams mainly and still averages 36mpg even with a heavy right foot!
Last week I sat at 65/70 on a 150 mile journey and average 45.6mpg on the computer which really is impressive and probably better than this new "better" version will manage...

It'll definitely be cheaper than the old 165/185 kits. The 185 was the best part of 2k.That said, you won't see any of that money come re-sale, it certainly won't add that much value to the car. So I'd rather just stuck with an "out of the box" car to begin with. I wasted a lot of money on the 185 kit, it added no value on trade-in, unless of course I was to sell privately, but that wasn't really an option.

I think the kit will add a bit of value as for me I think a high % of the fiesta ST's sold will have them fitted as the 180bhp is a bit weak and it will bump it up to the sort of power it should produce. That said, you won't see any of that money come re-sale, it certainly won't add that much value to the car. For me I would like to pick one up 3 years old for circa 8-9k and give it a cheaky remap up to maybe 220bhp think it could be a great allrounder having driven a stock mk7 zetec s and finding it a very nice car to drive!
