RE: Renaultsport Clio 200 - full details
Discussion
There's been other threads/topics/posts about this new Clio RS.
And I will say the same again, because I feel compelled to do so.
It
Is
Ugly.
It doesn't matter if it's the best car in the world, that is f***ing wrank.
I think the 197 (Pre-face lift) looked awesome, clean lines, purposeful and proportioned.
This new one is a pig.

I can't think of any standard small hatch that's been given an LSD.
The current MINI had one as an option for a couple of years (2008/09 I think). They dropped it. It brings it's own problems on a front driver anyway, it can exacerbates torque steer for instance. It makes a good pub talking point though I guess... Unlike the fancy front suspension kinematics of the Clio who seem to be doing a decent job at getting the power down in the previous version anyway, I wonder if it will cope with the added low rev grunt though ?loveice said:
Not that long ago, I remember when the MKV Golf GTI was first introduced, its starting price was £19,995.
8 years ago. Even at 3% inflation / year, that's 24% inflation. Does that help? ;-)Edited by nickfrog on Thursday 14th February 21:05
Lots of bizarre 'it's ugly' comments in this thread.
I'm sorry, but I've always thought the current Clio to be a bit of a design vacuum. THAT was ugly.
This new car is more interesting. But, to listen to most of you, you think it's somehow become uglier than the old car. Really?
I'm not fan of either car, but I remember clearly when the refreshed 200 was revealed, people instantly took a disliking to it. It was just too fussy and uninspired. But over time everyone seemed to warm to the thing. Because it proved itself time and time again.
And yet, this car is being universally (almost) ridiculed before anyone has had the opportunity to drive it. I absolutely guarantee, if this new 200 is a hit on the road, in a year or so people will have nothing but praise for what Renault have achieved by moving the game significantly on.
Now carry on with your petulant "Oh gawd that's hideous, it's got no diff and they're piping engine sounds into the cabin...how could they.!?"

So for £3k less I could have a Fiesta ST which looks fantastic compared to this, or pay £2k more and have a Focus ST?
Is that really a good selling point for the Fiesta... If I ever go back to hot hatches I just couldn't buy the/a Ford. I saw a face lifted Fiesta today, Aston grill an all... It's just wrong. The Focus... undoubtedly a good car, credit where it's due but just doesn't move me in the slightest. It wouldn't surprise me, inspite of it's robo box, that Renalt do pull it off. The RenaultSport boys won't have forgotten how to engineer and develope a car overnight!

They should offer a real cup version without all that electronic dash and st, not many will want the electronic sound thingymabob.
I find it hilarious that they think a electronic dashboard showing pointless figures like a game of Forza Motorsports FAR outweighs a manual gearbox for enthusiasts . It's not a fake engine noise you f*cking idiots. It's the actual, real engine noise and they've even made it louder with a ruddy pipe thingy. This is separate to the bloody app, which is just a bit of fun and was developed by the separate team responsible for the infotainment system.
And we knew it was going to be a 5 dr, 1.6 turbo dual clutch job months and months ago! Grrr!

I must be the only one that likes it... Flappy paddles, noises, sport buttons, bound to drive decently and all for under 20k? Poor mans supercar and it looks striking.
I'm with this guy.So many picky bds.
'Oh it's got a flappy paddle gearbox' - yes but in race mode it turns off ALL ESC and associated items and outs the gearbox into manual mode so you can smash it off the limiter, changes gear in sub 150 milliseconds and has launch control. Do you get any of that in ANY other auto box fast hatch. No.
'Oh it's got 5 doors' - yes, they've been there from the start. They look ace in the flesh and many people don't realise it's even got them.
'No bespoke bodywork' - the Clio 172/182 range didn't, neither did the 225/R26 meganes. The 250/265 only have arches/side skirts. The standard car has fantastic lines anyway.
'No brembos' - why is that an issue? It's got 320mm front discs, iirc that's bigger than an E36 M3 had, and that had 50% more power. No brembos on anything else in this category either (I'm pretty sure on this, but happy to be proven wrong) and no one complains.
'Fake sound into the cabin' - only if you want it, you have to pay extra for the R-link system, plus load an app and set it up. Don't want it? Don't bloody switch it on.
It is 26kg lighter than the old car, has more torque, better spread of power, quicker acceleration times, reported better handling. The quality is also better inside and out, comes with 4 years warranty, 4 years breakdown and 4 years free servicing.
So many naysayers who wouldn't even buy one if it fitted everything they complain about anyway
