Yep, im with you on that one, Nick :-) Because in the thread about successor of one of the purest hothatch bloodline, I can see only one interesting point in that post - about the seating position. And maybe that it doesn't look so frightfully in flesh.

Engine noise options are ridiculous and show the car is aimed at those at the lower end of the IQ scale. The whole concept is bizarre but at the same time actually funny lol. Wondering now if when the engine explodes/disintegrates in anyway the normal lunching noises are emitted into the cabin or is this also amplified...

The thing is Zajda that the poster above only saw the standard model, therefore, he can't be expected to have any observations about the RS model can he now.

At the end of the day it is impossible to judge what it will be like to drive at present. It may have a number of features that a lot of PH members dislike (paddle shift and the turbo engine to name 2) but not one of us knows what it will be like to drive the thing.

It's not the type of car for me in the first place but until I drive it I can't pass comment on its capabilities.

It's pretty funny to slate the car as being essentially for morons and then using "lol" without irony.

Saw my first new Clio yesterday and it genuinely looks quite good - much bigger than I thought, but much better than the frankly terrible press shots.

One point.. The four doors will be a big plus for people with young families or grandparents!

In fairness, the guy has a habit of calling anyone who doesn't have his views idiots, chavs, morons etc etc

Odd for someone who can't spell business correctly (see users profile).

While I wouldn't defend any of the fake noise tosh, I would remind people that the engine is borrowed from the Juke so one would hope Nissans input might reduce it's likelyhood of explosion.

Yeah because the consumers of this country really want to drive a brand new car with an interior of a 90's Peugeot. The whole point of a hot hatch is that it builds on the same DNA as the cooking models. It's not some bespoke creation, it's an upgrade of an existing model.

Therefore the quality of the interior really matters. If people wanted a fast car with a stripped out interior, they'd buy a Caterham (myself included), but for the daily drive and the odd trackday, most people will opt for a car that can do everything. And franky, by what I've seen on this new Clio, it'll do a damn fine job.

The problem I see here is many manufacturers leaves what they are good at and trying to aim at the same customer instead. So they are fighting each other with very similar models. Then they have to cut the costs extensively to be competitive etc. If I'd like to buy a daily automatic Volkswagen quick hatch, i'd buy a Volkswagen, not a Renault paraphrase. From my point of view, it's just deformation of the market, that will have it's consequences. I too believe that this behavior of aiming on widest possible customer base can be succesful...for short period of time. In long term, the last bits of brand uniqueness and customer loyalty will disappear that way. Executives at the Toyota had the guts to do it differently one time with GT86, and here we go. It isn't probably a golden mine, but they are selling plenty of them, in some countries allocations of GT86/BRZ were sold out right from the start last year.

Yes but Toyota being the biggest car company also has the money to do practically anything they want, move into any sector... Build and sell the LF-A, each one at a loss. Renault have to do things a little differently.
Renault have a knack of getting it right after doomongerers have prematurely slated their latest effort as a 'fail'.
I wish I could just know how a product is going to be before it's even hit the market place.
We'll all have an idea in the next month.

The clio 172 cup can now be found doing track duty all over the country, I wonder if the same will be said of this in 5-10 years time?

In March 2003 I purchased a new clio 172 cup for £12,800 from a UK renault dealer. 120,000 miles later I still have it and it has been reliable throughout. It has been the most fun to drive and Whilst I may eventually buy a new daily hack I will never sell the clio. If you've never had one of these then now is the time. Pick one up for a grand and hoon around in it for a year to see what all the fuss was about, you wont lose any money and you may just find you hang on to that little clio for longer than you ever intended! They are absolutely brilliant.

most news are positive from first testing. great noise, gearbox, and there is still good level of oversteer

That's what I did. Biggest car nightmare I've ever had, absolute money pit. I was unlucky, but they are fragile cars. You looked after yours. Can't say the same about how the previous owners treat the one I bought. Never again. IMO they aren't THAT great to drive, either.
