The bear character may have initially been used to 'mock' paedophile hysteria on various internet chatroom forums but it is now considered in the mainstream to be a symbol of paedophilia.

Sorry to be a pedant but that's not what it says in the wiki article.

'Now considered' and 'mistakenly' are 2 different things.

Whether you agree with it/like it or not it was a moding/tuning thing a few years ago and lets face it it's hardly plastered everywhere.

It doesn't cause me offence and i'm really not sure why people are getting their knickers in a twist about the sticker. It's obvious what it mocks, leave it at that. The guy isn't driving around with Jimmy Saville on his window (the bear with the condoms is in poor tast imho)! Sasha Baron Cohen however did have the villans mug on the back of his tracksuit at the Comedy awards....why not go and lobby him??

The mainstream - idiots as they may be, will view it differently. A quick Google by anyone seeing that sticker would make them think it was pro-paedophilia.

I personally know the origin of the character. It has appeared on Pistonhead's forums many times over the years.

Remember the Robertson's Golly symbol ??

But hey - it's on a family car so we can all just laugh about it.

The Wiki article gives several examples of how the paedobear character is viewed in the mainstream. I know the original origin!

I've seen the bear stickers before on boy racer's cars.

The point in this example is the fact the poster thinks the connotation with the family estate car is doubly amusing - I personally find it sad.

The best I saw was a very official looking sticker that said "I slow down for girls' schools"

The WORST smuggest most cringe-worthy sticker ever was given out to parents by a private school near me.

Well educated child on board (followed by the name of the school in smaller letters)

And yes, some parents really did stick it in their rear windows. smash

Would it? A quick google would throw up the wiki page, which you linked to, containing the phrase "It has been frequently misunderstood as a mascot of child sex offenders when on the contrary it mocks such people." or a link to know your meme which says essentially the same thing.

Of course.

The fact that both the links have to state in the first instance that (wrongly) the bear is viewed a mascot for child sex offenders proves my point of how it is percieved by the mainstream.

I think it's a bit wrong, I joke about most things but that's a bit gross, I just don't get who you think would look at that and think "what a great joke" Before you say it I get it it's just IMHO not funny.
The Spunk I found in petrol station shop and was instantly reminded of the SLR vs Powerboat Top Gear episode in which JC tries it. I can certainly confirm, Spunk does not taste nice. At all. I didn't swallow.

FWIW, I'm not bothered about the bear and don't find it any more offensive than the previously mentioned Brass Eye/Monkey Dust jokes. If people want to get excited and go all Daily Mail attacking paediatricians with rage, it's up to them. I probably won't be losing any sleep over it, but thanks for your opinion. I'm sure I can find other things to worry about.

No, iirc it was the underground carpark of the DAS Hotel in Hamburg.
But seriously who are you mocking with a bear stickers??

People who want to have sex with children?, people who feel scared for their kids safety? I honestly don't get who the target viewer is?

You've hit the nail on the head.

The person posing in photo wearing the bear suit I presume is an innocent PR job by some business and some internet geek has used the photo in a 'peadobear' (negative) connotation. Hilarious!

"Hey mum /nan / daughter / girlfriend / wife like my new car sticker??"

"What does it stand for?"

"- oh yes it's a picture tag people put on the internet on posts of very young girls to warn about possible paedophile content."
