RE: 30 years of the Peugeot 205
Discussion
I had a 1.0 205 i fiddled with, never finished. Driving it to its MOT with the suspension stiffened up and hunkered down was a propr experience. A friend had a 1.1 which i bought some rallye stickers for, was a wonderful car, he's just getting rid of his 205 1.6 gti for a puma (Much to my dismay). His 205 was wonderful and the seats would of been nicer if i had been a lesser guy.
My first car was a 205 Roland Garros and I absolutely loved it. Replaced it with a Mk2 Golf GTI 8v because the 205 had started playing me up when starting from warm near the end. I decided I needed German solidity rather than the previously planned 205 1.6 GTi. The Golf failed its MOT horrendously 6 months after I bought it . . . ::-)
Briefly drove my mate's 1.9 GTi around a trading estate in Kidderminster. Not quite the drive I had in mind!

My all time favourite. A red 1.9 from 1989. Did 80,000m in it. Loved it to bits, awesome speed and handling in a time when there were no speed bumps, scameras, etc. Just masses of twisting Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire roads. Happy, happy days.
(PS: In the ad for the 1.9 in the story it says 115bhp...)
The early 1.9's had 115, and the early 1.6's 105 bhp. They upped the power to 115/130 bhp within a year or two I think.(PS: In the ad for the 1.9 in the story it says 115bhp...)
I bought a nice lowish mileage Miami Blue 1.6 GTi last year.
Just in the process of having it restored at the moment. Rather than post up all the pictures again, here is a link to my thread running on the SC forum...

Theres some great 205s on the 306gti6 forum (Which i frequent as I have one), My personal favourie is a white 205 rallye with a 2.1 bored out gti-6 engine and throttle bodies.
I'm a massive fan of another white 205 rallye with a supercharged gti6 engine too!
Personally though i'd love one with a fettled aluminum block 206 gti engine.

Not quite. The early 1.6's had 105bhp, which was then increased to 115bhp. The 1.9 was always 130. Until they fitted the CAT to the 1.9 which decreased it to 125 or 120, something like that.Daveyraveygravey said:

The 1.6gti went from 105 to 115 around the launch of the 1.9 Gti
Not just the GTI's that were hot. Did anybody have a 1.8 DTurbo? My parents got me one as a 'gap' car after my 3rd mk2 golf succumbed to dodgy Pierburg carb trouble.
What a beast! It was a white H plate, slightly lower and stiffer than stock. It had black weller steels, nice little valance and lovely cloth, hip-hugging seats. What bolsters!
I don't know if it had been played with, but as an 18 year old with 1 year on the road (having progressed from a 1 litre Panda, through 3 lowly carb Mk2 Golfs) the thing was a rocket! And, not only was it quick, i could get to work and back (40 mile round trip) TWICE plus driving around in the evening (flat out EVERYWHERE) for £5 worth of diesel!
Then, a tyre blew going into a junction, and ended up striking a big kerb side on
I miss you DTurbo 205

I can respect these for their rally use (driven by one of my fav lady drivers).
However I still don't see the appeal. If you 'have' to drive a hatch, then fair enough. If not this weeks SOTW is far more interesting and desirable IMO: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
