I bought a nice lowish mileage Miami Blue 1.6 GTi last year.

Just in the process of having it restored at the moment. Rather than post up all the pictures again, here is a link to my thread running on the SC forum...

I loved my 205 Roland Garros. The most enjoyable car I've owned. I wish Peugeot could still make such great cars!

Great little cars. Here's a non-GTI....

Mi16 perhaps? Just going by the wheels - and the fact the front brakes seem to be somewhat larger than original?
I'm saying Gentry? (with Mi16 wheels)

I can respect these for their rally use (driven by one of my fav lady drivers).

However I still don't see the appeal. If you 'have' to drive a hatch, then fair enough. If not this weeks SOTW is far more interesting and desirable IMO: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Hmm part of the appeal is, I guess, that it's fun to drive yet it doesn't look out of place nearly anywhere. It can take 4 and some luggage, it's a very sensible family car (although getting quite old now...).

I do have respect for the MR2 but it's a mid-engined two seater. If you have a passenger with you you've got nowhere left to leave your coat.
CAR mag ran a test featuring the two of them some 20 years back

Just prepping my '90 1.9 for sale, hopefully i'll have it on PH this weekend. It still suprises me how many people approach me at petrol stations/car parks and ask about it, how they remember how st hot they were when they came out etc etc etc

really dont want to sell it. This is my 4th GTi (but my first 1.9), but my other car needs some money spend on it to keep it at its best. A real shame, but cant justify having two toys any more.

Boo frown

Proud owner of 3 205s. Only one is properly working though. Saying that everything on it works including heated rear screen and clock. 77,000 miles and in April it'll be taxed for another summer. The spare tyre is still the original!

Man I miss mine! This is me thinking I looked cool 17 years ago! After two 2CV's and an SJ410 this was my second 205GTI. What a machine!! Always wanted the Miami blue though...

We had the 1.9 which after an MG Metro was a total revelation at the time.
Punchy, great induction roar and superb steering feel.
With two tots in the back it was plenty spacious , and still fun to drive anywhere you went.
Oh Peugeot , how you lost your way.....big hearted little rocket

Dynamically excellent but feel like they were made of food packaging. I ran a garage, bought and sold hundreds of Mk1 & 2 Golf GTIs and 1.6 & 1.9 Pugs but never felt safe pushing on in the Pugs because of the build integrity/perceived strength. The Golfs ALWAYS felt stronger.
I fell in love with VWs after owning a 1.9 GTI. I never could live with it's natty red carpet, red seat belts, horrific dashboard, flimsy build quality, seizing rear torsion bar and appalling traffic manners, let alone the 18mpg I used to see on a spirited drive! A horribly ugly engine to look at under the hood too.

The nail in the coffin was lining up at the lights against my mate in his F reg Golf 16V. I got the best launch and nosed ahead, but by the top of 2nd gear, he was heading for the horizon.

Flogged the pug, 16V bought, never looked back. Don't miss the thing, at all.

I have a few! laugh

That Ph1 1.6 is very wrong, wrong mirrors & spoiler for a Phase 1, amongst other things, been around the block too, not that it should matter really, but it sold for nearly half the price not that long ago!

Pedantic but 1.9's never had 130bhp. 128 was the actual figure, before Cats etc. Not many actually ever made that though, whereas it was more common to find a healthy 1.6.

STDT going from the rather tasteful interior Peugeot felt would look good for some reason. I have one of those, think I enjoy it more than my old 1.9, for some reason. Can't put my finger on why, though.

Louise Aitken-Walker, presumably?

If anyone reading owns Sorrento Green 1.6 G722 JHD, I hope you are looking after her well. I replaced most of the moving parts (learning the hard way about old cars with hardly any miles on the clock) so imagine that you have enjoyed some relatively reliable motoring.

The main problem of ownership for me (apart from wondering whether I would complete each journey) was that the other people on the country roads wouldn't get out of my way.

Had a silver 1985 1.6 GTI back in 1988, silver with sunroof and the all important red carpets! It was a bit of a pig to drive in town. Let me down only once in 3 years when the alternator gave up. Fortunately the used car warranty even covered the hotel accommodation whilst it was being repaired the next day. Remember that the fuel consumption was really heavy for what was a relatively light car; think it used to average about 27 mpg if I was careful. Traded it in against a standard 130 bhp CRX and noticed some serious rust on the A-pillar (it was only 6 years old at the time so very much doubt that B 979 EGN is still with us). At the time Honda's were bought mainly by pensioners so the insurance on the CRX was so much lower than the Pug. The build quality was in a different league and the engine was so sweet - would love to find an unmolested one.

Cracking car, perfect in white. Had a 1.6 as a road car and rallied a 1.9 with a mate from RRMC in road rallies, single and multi venue rallies - very happy days!
