32 years is a relatively long innings for a ship. Let's hope they find some way of preserving her.
It says "Sold for scrap" in the piece There's hope yet.......

Left Hermes and joined Illustrious in 82 then transfered to Bombers 83. Helped de store the old Ark in Guz in78. I have got a great photo of H and Illustrious from 82 Hermes coming back from the Falklands and Illustrious going down. We should share some other CVH photos.
I've got a photo of all 3 invincible class sailing together. I was on Ark at the time.IanMorewood said:
All seems a bit rushed I would keep her floating until Lizy is at least undergoing sea trials. Mind she could be due a major overhaul soon and Ocean is just out of refit.
It isn't really. Illustrious is a helicopter ship not an aircraft carrier, so what's the point in keeping her in service?Speculatore said:
I was the Executive warrant Officer on her from 2004 - 2007. I also served on Invincible from 1980 - 1986 and to complete the carrier trio I was on the previous 'Ark Royal' (Not the recent 'Invincible Class') from 1976 - 1979.
Did your office in Lusty have a shiny door by chance? If so I think I may have share a cup of tea with you in there. I was SIMPRESS in her in 2095 when she was doing her ORISome of you might find this of interest.

Had to laugh at this bit.Illustrious would be delivered 3 months ahead of schedule: “It was unknown for any ship to go out fault free.” says John: “But there was nothing wrong with it. We thought that cannot be….but it was.” Illustrious was on target to be delivered to the navy with no defects, nothing to be fixed or replaced. An outstanding achievement.
This was a common occurrence
Hydraulic failure on the after lift.
