...and there was me thinking the biggest screams and shouts when the XF and new XJ rolled out in the public glare were horrified gasps that they did not look like Jaguars.

I dont get the JLR thing at the moment. We seem to have some rabid aggressors to the firm for little reason, accusing all others of being blind fools and ignoring that the majority of those others dont actually own a JLR product. Hell, they usually own one or a variety of German rivals. By the same token we seem to have some rabid defenders who havent actually stumped up and bought one of their products.

Just seems a bit surreal.

Pfft, no accounting for taste. I once heard rumours there are ppl who own 2 or more TVRs simultaneously!

That just seems like common sense.

He'll have arrived home from school around 4pm and then it will take him a few hours to compose one of his rants. I'm estimating a 7pm post and then he'll just run away again for a few days to avoid any discussion. I think he likes playing 'tag' smile

Of course, now he's read this he's bound to do something different wink

Who in their right mind other than a poseur or a rich farmer / landowner would buy a RR over a German alternative Cayenne X5 Q7
Me. I wouldn't be seen dead in either a Q7 (looks like a Warthog in a bench vice) or a Cayenne that my Mrs thought was a Hyundai, much to the owners annoyance. I did chuckle.

I'm not into big £££££ 4x4's at all, but the Range Rover is the only one I would even consider. It's a classic design that they've cleverly updated and that's what it's all about. A British Icon you could say.

I would need to see the F Type before passing judgement, but from the pics I can't say I'm impressed.
It'll come and go like all the others.

Edit: should add that I far prefer the current 5 Series to the XF, the only Jaguar I like. The XJ loioks ridiculous - the front end looks like a Mack truck. The XK looks like 1996 to me.

You should try a Cayenne - a superb piece of kit!! I'm still thinking of getting one.

No doubt, but it isn't a Range Rover rival. How much better would a Cayenne be if it didn't have to be a pretend off-roader?

No idea to your last Q but it was wonderful to drive when I had a test drive a while back. Don't get me wrong, I love the RR too but I always keep an open mind on these things.

I'm sure it's wonderful. But no thanks. Same goes for the Q7.

That's quite a sell, promise you a free weekend in one, did they?

If that's aimed at me then that's a big NO!

I just find that you can judge a car much better if you actually drive one. I know, radical idea!

I have a different take and so do the Jaguar dealers - and I already pre-ordered an F-type myself in Dec 2012:

Early pre-order books for the F-type must be looking poor, hence the panicky feeling articles like here, to drum up some mug punters.
From Monday, 25 February, 2013 Jaguar Houston Central - a Blog Posting

Well, it appears that the collaboration is bearing fruit in the form of a new ad for the greatly anticipated Jaguar F-Type which was already sold-out before it got the chance to make it to our dealership.

Not only do I think the F-Type is a hit (it sure separated me from my money - I get mine in July) but it also brought me to my local Jaguar dealership and to surprise I got a good look at Jaguar's recent offerings so now I am now the proud owner of an 2013 XJL. I call this a collateral sale, no F-Type and I would have never visited my local dealership, and I couldn't be happier now.

I'm sure driving a Cayenne or Q7 is tremendous. It's being seen in one by somebody I know that would bother me.

Fair play if that's how you feel. Personally, I just don't understand why people are so concerned with what others think of them if a certain car is right for them. Each to their own I guess.

If you call an XJL merely a collateral sale... te salut GerryJag.

I agree and put it down to a lamentable lack of self-confidence ..........

And self-delusion; most people look at really tasty metal and think nice, wish it was mine, then they look at the driver and think he/she looks a reet twot.

I can think of at least two real fast professional drivers who have daily drives far from what you'd expect; one drives a Micra, the other a Fabia.

And yep, on another post above, a really fishy first post that ........ reminded me of that old Remington Ad - bugger it, you'll all be too young to remember.
