Do you really believe that any of those companies engineer their chassis for RWD with 4WD as an "afterthought"?
Yes I do.- it's their image
- it's what they have been doing forever.
Or else, you tell me: why do 3 out of 4 major premium sellers decide not to have a decent 4wd offer in any rhd country? 'Marketing decision'? What sense does that make?
As opposed to Audi who also, incidentally, have their platforms engineered for 4wd from the ground up?

The E63 4Matic S does 0-62mph in a claimed 3.6 seconds. That is bonkers for a 1,940kg saloon car.
Have the AMG engineers decided not to pay attention to physics any more? kambites said:

Ah, so you're saying they engineer their RHD platforms for RWD only, that would make a lot more sense. Be interesting to see a schematic of this 4-matic system and where everything goes.

I have an embarrassing confession to make.
I always thought 4matic meant 4 speed automatic transmission
Yes, I have no interest in Mercs whatsoever, just in their power figures.
It's the name that's a bit confusing, did the same thing then a double take and realised my mistake. Still, with all that torque, a 4 speed auto will probably work just as well.I always thought 4matic meant 4 speed automatic transmission

Merc tend to be a bit conservative with performance data, I believe it.
You can lease a 2wd version for under £600/m, that is a massive bargain IMO. The new V8 is even pretty good on fuel. I reckon I could switch my C63 order to one of these and the extra payment cost would be nullified by the fuel savings.

As i said, i will when i SEE it.
I like the thought of this very much indeed and, I'm in the market for something to replace my steed, so maybe a test drive will be the order of the day.
Except.... no LHD so not available in the UK, and im not convinced of the complex set up of the 4WD system, especially with a drive shaft through the sump pan?!?!
As has been stated, Audi have cornered the market in fast 4wd machines for many years, and i think the AMG is too little too late.
Oh well...
I really hope im proved wrong!
