Can a cam chain change lead to head gasket failure?

Found out the car is a Vauxhall Mariva. After examining things more closely the garage has now said he can't tell if the seal has been replaced. Sounds to me like thy don't know what they are talking about.

New camchain
Started engine lots of 'ting ting tong ting' noises. Stopped engine
Camchain in half,the link that holds it together was put on the wrong way!!
Head off, three valves replaced .No damage to piston luckily, as head off ipso facto New Head Gasket
Chain link put back correctly 40k later car sold with no more head lifting..
