Can anyone find the 'I'm a control freak!!' 850 advert, with a T5 driving over a ravine on rails? One of my earliest car memories. Was v. impressed when volvo sent me out an info pack after I phoned them. smile
That's the ad I was originally looking for, I remember watching it as a kid thinking they're gonna crash they're gonna crash!

Nooooo - I love old car ads but cannot view vids at work. Will have a gander later.

A classic for a future feature: the legendary 300ZX ad.

"So I'm havin this dream, I'm in a 'turbo zeeeee'..."
"Just when they were about to catch me, the twin... turbos... kick... in"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0B8UG7pK9Q

But the best one was 300ZX and Barbie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylyvWXcoOWQ

The Volvo 850 t5 ad always does it for me. The Volvo "fastest car on the highway" has to go down as one of the greatest jingles of all time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z99nhXG_bY
st. You just made me want a T5.
hehe It very nearly hits that deer.
Brilliant advert.

T5, your needs are understood.
T5, we're looking good.

Love the end. "Lift off, we have lift off!".

This is one of my favourites though:

Sorry, but this one takes some beating... its even cheesier than the Chrysler one!

PH staff, I give you the next "ad break" feature...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP7ijUkgc-4

"The most advanced production car on the planet" - meanwhile over in Stuttgart, the Germans are pissing themselves laughing - "wow, ze Americans have ze tyres engineered for ze corners of the car... as opposed to ze middle of ze car?" rofl

What exactly is a "computer-activated manual transmission"?

I thought it looked great, everything in the early 80's was all about micro processors and lasers!

Nice that they had Black Stig to test drive it.

The best cheesefest ad is the 300ZX "Black Gold" edition...Black Goooooooold!

The funny thing is, i can imagine FWD performance being a positive in the early 80s, just think about RWD cars with 1970s suspension and bias-ply tyres sliding off the road on wet corners....

I had a Dodge Daytona (same car, different badging) back in the 80s and it was awesome. Mine seemed to have a thumping V8 and the ability to power oversteer at will though.
One of my favourite matchbox cars, and the dream is now shattered.

I had one of these as well......actually still have it. Found it in my parents loft a few months back.....it's still there mind you!

Why are people denying that front wheel drive was seen as modern? It was certainly a selling point in some ways.

This advert's only from 2001 (in Australia), but can you imagine trying to get it through the nanny state over here? hehe

It's called 'V8 Symphony'.
