I thought this advert for the original Audi A4 was one of the best car adverts ever at the time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIQ-283wKgg

Very ironic now though as Audi is seen to be the car of choice for guys like this, and this ad was possibly the catalyst for it

I had one of those smile (probably still got it somewhere!)
It worked unlike the one in the vid - the idea being to get the furthest distance on the trip meter before your fuel ran out. If you hit the trees the trip stopped but the fuel kept going down.
At primary school I even set it up at the fete and charged people for goes - the winner at the end of the day with the furthest trip got a crappy 'cup' made of bog roll and foil with a twix or something biggrin

I had a Dodge Daytona (same car, different badging) back in the 80s and it was awesome. Mine seemed to have a thumping V8 and the ability to power oversteer at will though.
One of my favourite matchbox cars, and the dream is now shattered.

OMG. I owned one of these! The Matchbox car, that is, not the real Daytona. Apparently it soldiered on long after the Laser died, gaining a series of facelifts and becoming progressively less cruddy. Or so I read.
so did I but I one looked like this:

I had that exact toy, up until now I'd thought it was a Mustang smile

80's cars all looked the same, good job that doesn't happen now

Don't forget Knight Rider was all the rage at the time.
The black paint and digital dash would have played well
with audiences.
