Isnt it telling that the only way designers can produce cars these days that arent an ugly mess or straight lines and scalloped curves is to hark back to classic cars penned by people who actually knew what style was/is
So you don't think the 8C is a good looking car?
No, it looks great. But I meant that by and large, harking back with retro designs is becoming more common, whilst "modern" designs are simultaneously more and more gopping (see the new a class, any audi, new fiesta etc etc). This would seem to suggest that the only way people can make a decent looking car any more is to take lessons from the past
I think it's a bit of a blanket statement to accuse most mid sized modern cars as "gopping". I don't think their equivalents from 20, 30 years ago were better looking. Plus I'm pretty sure the 8C wasn't styled after some old decrepid bath tub. The whole "retro" thing we've seen over the last decade or so is more marketing and branding than it is styling.

Mercedes McLaren SLR McLaren Edition.

25 units produced from December 2010 (a year after the SLR was discontinued).

There was one at the Goodwood Breakfast Club, Supercar Sunday last year. Four images here.

(You may have to use Compatability Mode in IE8/9. Takes a few seconds to load.)

I'm SO glad that i am not alone in thinking the re-body is...well a bit gash. The 8C is orgasmically pretty so why mess with it?

That 300SC merc is f*cking horrendous. Looks like an american custom P.O.S and should be driven from the photo shoot into the crusher. Waste of an SLS IMHO.

Have to echo what many have said I'm afraid. A lesson in how to ruin a perfectly good 8C. 4000 hours and god knows how much money, give one to me and I can uglify it in a fraction of the time.

Oh and is anyone else getting just a little bit bored of this retro movement fad? Yes we've had some very pretty cars in the past but I think it's says more about the lack of imagination\talent of modern car designers who can't seem to come up with something new AND good looking tbh.

Must just be me who enjoys that Merc then, it looks bloody beautiful. Never think much of SLSs in pictures nor on the road.

Its pretty from some angles, just not sure about the shape of the rear arches, not a design classic like the E type or Griffith IMO

Split opinion in our house, my OH thinks it looks stunning (not in silver) I think the front and the sides look a mess although the back end looks great an you get the noise back there too.

It's an incredible interpretation of the original and really captures the essence of Alfa Romeo. It's not the prettiest, but I love it all the same.

Passo Gardena and Pordoi mostly. (Pordoi signpost was shown in the film.)

Touch of 928 in there somewhere, but the rear arches were vile and the interior looked like the interior of a1980s nightclub... Other than that it was ok.
