I assume you don't use your Lexus on B roads, being 5" longer than the Viper it's clearly far too big to be usable in this country wink
Is the issue with the Viper the proportion of it's length that is in front of the driver as opposed to it's actual size?

So although it isn't actually any bigger than a car like a GTR, the driver has a lot more metal in front of him in a Viper.

Just a thought.
I guess similar is true of an E-Type or even an XJ-S.

Oh come on it's not that bad... I always imagined them a bit bigger TBH

Dodge Viper

Porsche 997

Length 175.7 in
Width 72.9 in

Nissan GTR

Length 183.9 in
Width 74.9 in
Well I've not driven one in the UK but it certainly didnt feel small when I drove one. Am guessing its more a psychological thing due to the shape than any objective dimensional thing.

to quote the article I posted, "With so much of the car's distant flanks out of sight, placing the leering snout between the yellow line and the guardrail is stressful exercise on narrow ribbons. "The car seems so big I can't tell where it ends or starts," commented one tingly-headed driver."

And thats from a magazine that always loved the Viper (as did all US car mags really)

I drove a red R/T years ago. BIG noise, not necessarily a nice noise but a big one. Horrible ride and I think this would be its undoing if you were goaded into chasing down even a "mere" Porsche Cayman. Was fun but brutish and I wouldn't want to live one everyday and id NEVER have one in the UK unless it was my 4th car.
BP, I guess if you're looking for creature comforts in a brutish sports car, you shouldn't even bother looking at any Vipers. Why bother? Lot of folks complaining about how the Viper is uncomfortable and not usable, etc.....I'm pushing 66 and never felt uncomfortable driving my GTS driving 250 miles each way to summer place.I'd love to suffer owning/driving the Ultima GTR here that's even more cramped inside,LOL.The Ultima is equally brutish, noisy and uncomfortable for some!

Maserati MC12 length 202.5 in
width 82 in

Thanks for link, what a brilliant watch. That looks like a TV broadcast, I wish we had something like focused on tv here in the UK. I particularly enjoyed the bit with the Viper in LA, what a beautiful city, I must go there some time.

I think the black Viper they used on the track at the start might be the same press car that Richard Hammond drove on Top Gear when they did their US road trip episode that was broadcast last month.

so lets see... lazy, unstressed engine with LOADS of tuning potential and a great amount of reliability (can virtually service with a hammer lol) and returns mid 20s to 30mpg vs highly stressed 5litre V10 which struggles to see much over 20mpg and isn't infinitely tuneable.

Let's face it 450 horses is plenty to be getting on with - who cares if it's a lazy 8litre the reliablility and (relative) economy seems to make a pretty damn good argument
It's a bloody truck engine for gawds sake!!!

Oh yeah, explain that how it is a truck engine. There's a search engine you could use to read about the development of the all aluminum V10 with the help of Lamborghini. Why people get confused is the fact that the original Viper concept didn't have the V 10 engine ready for the media to show, so Chrysler had to graft two extra cylinders on their 360 cu engine [also known as the 318 before bored stroked to 340 and 360 later] they had for decades.
But you're partially right ,they started to put the Viper engine in their srT truck to combat the Ford Lightning. The reason for not going OHC was to maintain a low hood profile similar to the Vette.
Corvette had a Lotus designed engine for the early ZR1 and if that was such a great engine, why are they still using pushrods today [ low end torque ] and just throw some superchargers if needed more power like they've done for the new ZR1.

Got it,contigo is a pot stirrer, albeit letting some haters know a little bit about the Viper's history won't hurt.

I guess we should not mention the GTS-R engines were originally being developed for some bloke called Ron Dennis at Mclaren for the F1 program, he backed out of a Gentleman's agreement so The engines kicked off the Viper race program. whistle

It's a shame you have to have those plates on the front. Most people [ including the popo ,haha] would only see your rear end anyhow, in case they want to write your plate numbers down, doing something silly.
I carry my front plates in the trunk [ boot]. Haven't got pulled over for no front plates yet.Hope I didn't just jinxed myself saying it.
Awesome cars, friend got the same black ACR as yours.
