0-60 in 4 seconds may be, but which way you would be facing is another matter. I think this vid says it all:

I'm genuinely curious, what do you think that vid says?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_cowwf8p6E
To me it says that the person in the Viper wasn't paying attention and drove in to the back of someone else.
I saw someone to this in a Peugeot 406 on the M4 a few weeks ago, what conclusion can we draw?
Boy PH is getting stupid

Great choice of car, I love the Viper, but am I the only one a bit disappointed by the article itself? Terrible choice of accompanying video, the word 'gosh' used twice, and a few inaccuracies thrown in. This is the kind of thing I'd expect in the forums, not the PH authored articles themselves!
Ps, I do wonder about all this talk of the ethereal 30mpg in a yank V8, it appears to be a benchmark for some reason. I've not seen 20mpg in my Chevy V8, let alone 30!

Got to love the fu-ckwits posting on this thread
Dodge Viper, what a heap of dung, who the hell would want one of those.
Much rather have a Good looking Euro box that looks the same as everyone else's Good looking Euro box
Yea there American so there built like crap, Probably have never won any races either
Who the hell would want one of these
Why is it Every time the word 'American' is mentioned the trolls come out of the woodwork and slag off everything about them? ......Don't bother answering that, I could not be bothered to hear your comments.

It's possible (on a run) is what I and most people with actual experience of these cars've said. I've done it with a supercharged V8 Mustang, and with the Viper. Whether I'd do it all the time is completely another matter.Ps, I do wonder about all this talk of the ethereal 30mpg in a yank V8, it appears to be a benchmark for some reason. We are in 2013 and yet with all the information and facts available in seconds we still have so called humans that still remain to be sheep followers.

Late model Chevy Impala.
Now you're talkin'
To be fair that's a far better car than a 1.2 corsa which is where it stands in terms of cost to buy/lease/rental car in it's home market. Now you're talkin'
Should add I'm biased because I drove a 3.9 ltz through death valley and it performed flawlessly even with some 'extreme' off road desert action in 115 degree temps.

I've loved them ever since I saw Eddie Murphy shred the tyres on one in The Nutty Professor, they just look like nothing else and who can argue with a 8 litre V10. Sure it might not be as competent or as usable in the UK as a Cayman but you are comparing a poster car of generation to a competent but ultimately very dull German sports car and any die in the wool petrol head who says they'd prefer owning the Cayman over this absolutely mental car is missing a soul IMO.
A buddy got to put on about 300 miles on the company viper back in the 90's. He wasn't impressed due to the stiffness and it being uncomfortable, but it had endless power.
I've always like their looks, but there must be something wrong with them due to how uncommon they are in the US.

The asking price would buy you one of the lowest mileage and mintest Ferrari 456s in the country. That's a direct contemporary to the GTS and cost £170k new, with similar power/performance as well as a couple of extra cylinders and kiddie seats. Dodge or Ferrari? Hmm, tricky.
PS: I have always liked the GTS, but not at that price.

The yellow and black Viper in the link the article is great, belongs or belonged to a member off here, who has already posted in this thread. What a sound!
As for the Viper having "only" 400bhp at first, it had 490ft/lb of torque too, and produced 90% of it's peak torque from 1800rpm according to an article I read in EVO. That thing will just go in any gear. You might think it's too wide, too cartoonish or crass for UK roads. But some of the roads I saw in America, coupled with the price of gas and the rugged mechanical toughness inherent to American performance cars, if I was a rich guy, there's nothing else I'd rather be driving on a regular basis.

ahh yes the 456, the ugliest Ferrari ever made, and as a result the cheapest modern(ish) Ferrari you can buy. PS: I have always liked the GTS, but not at that price.
The Viper is a raw muscle car, massive engine, lots of noise, drama and presence, the total opposite of the 456. I know which one will hold up as a classic and which one will be unloved in years to come. No doubt which is the better CAR, but thats not what PH is about, otherwise we would all drive a Kia.

Now apologies to the owner if he's on here but I've never been a fan of this one.IMG_9754 by Ukjonnyboy, on Flickr
Think it looks terribly tacky and nowhere near as good as the racing car it's supposed to be aping. Especially the splitter on the front looks awful.
He's got a Viper and I've got a Corsa though, so I guess I should pipe down.

That Impala is significantly worse at everything than a USDM Hyundai Sonata. I spent a month in each of them during a lovely winter in Indiana. The Impala was a massive disapointment.
A Sonata? Obviously that's a better car in the US market, class leading IMO.
However you were calling an Impala on a thread on a UK website and it's streets ahead of the ste you'd buy for similar money in the septic isle....the 1.2 corsa I mentioned as point in fact....
