And to continue the topic of PCPs and the point that MarkMullen made, I have a 59 plate Cooper Chilli Auto. 39 months old, owned from brand new, 16000 miles, purchased on a 4 year PCP with £1k deposit. I am awaiting delivery of a new A3 before VTing the Mini. It is £2k in negative equity, somuch for finance companies (BMW finance n this case) setting realistic GMFV.
High residual value to give low monthly payments, it's good for the customer however bites MINI in the arse come trade in time.

I believe they are part of the vat free offer but i cannot find the vat free price anywhere online and im sure its wont be as straight forward as simply taking 20% off he list price.
divide by 1.2 eg 25 000 / 1.2 = 20 833 which is the pre-vat price. Unless I've misunderstood.

New Transit Custom looks nice from what I've seen of it. Well I overtook one, so don't read that as gospel! Lost a sale to one last week against a Trafic to a company that have been Renault for years. Connect is way out of date though, I'm not sure if it's due to be replaced or not though. You'd do worse than get yourself to the CV Show at the NEC in April. Check out all of the other manufacturers in one place. Lots of trades there showing new aftermarket kit. And the odd girl in lycra, so it's all good...

My Mrs is going for a job in car sales. This is a position starting at the bottom - think the basic is something like £12k with OTE of £25k.

How do they work out the commission - do you need to (for example) have a target of 5 cars a week to break even, then you start getting commission at the 6th car, or does the commission start at the first car you sell?

This is a total career change for the other half - not really had a career as such, so the basic salary is not a problem. Very jealous of her - wish I was in a position where I could start again and try another career.

£12k basic is about standard, she should however earn more than £25k if she is hitting her targets.

Commission will be based on (usually) a combination of profit from the metal, profit from the finance, commission for add ons (paint protection, GAP etc) and sometimes no of units sold.

My demo was sold last year, ive been in a used car, now a pre-reg one from the forecourt! Who knows if ill get a demo, although it does mean mine isnt checked on Audit, which is a bit more relaxing. Dont have to worry about my CD in the stereo!

Yay to the new thread though, lets keep this cleaner!

Some places you get a % of retained profit in a unit and then paid on add ons, such as GAP and paint protection, and a % of finance commission, we operate like that, it's quite transparent and you know easily what you are going to be earning.

Other places pay set amounts per unit regardless of retained profit and this is then sometimes on a sliding scale using bandings, i.e. sell up to 5 cars and get x amount per unit, 6-9 cars more per unit, 10 upwards and even more per unit retrospective back to unit 1.

If the place she works for has a business mamnager she may get a small % of finance commsission or small set amount for selling the car on finance, GAP and paint protection as usually the add ons and finance are the business managers domain, however as they tend to be specialist in finance they will sell more finance units than the average salesman.

Different places operate in different ways.

There is currently a BIG trend in getting female staff onto Sales Teams. Theres a young lady working with us that is absolute mustard at the job and is earning well.

Question for the main dealer guys as I will be ordering a new car this week:

The price the dealer has offered is still a long way off Drive The Deal and OrangeWheels. I would rather order from him than the internet. Is it realistic to expect him to get anywhere near these prices?

Bung OW & DTD quotes in front of him, then you will know.

Close. VED and first registration are non-VAT so take that off before doing the calculation.

Or, just look on the Skoda website.

Sales guy has just been telling me he had a bloke in this morning who admitted to him he'd buy a car, even if he didn't really like it just because the numbers were good. WTF.

As weird as it may seem to some, others just see a car as white good, if he has no interest in cars does he want to trawl around for weeks looking for something that he has absolutely no interest in and which he is buying purely as a neccesity, if the price is right and it does the job then to him it's perfect.

I just thought its mad something that expensive, you'd not be bothered if you particually liked it.

Apparently he liked the Juke but the numbers weren't good enough so walked away.

As an accountant, we can't help ourselves. Especially if you're comparing two vaguely similar cars - I'm currently driving a Toyota Avensis because the cost to change was massively better than that offered on a Seat, and the running costs will only catch up with me in 2016ish...

Would have preferred the Seat but the Toyota was too "clean and tidy" a deal and I've grown to like it.

I assume you don't care though as the negative equity is the finance company's problem?

Why would you rather buy it from the local dealer at more cost? Just buy it anywhere then service it with them. As the car is under manufacturer warranty for the first three years I don't see a need to buy from your local dealer if they can't get anywhere near DTD.
