I realize that talking about "roof heights," "sight lines," and "cargo space" are nearly anathema to discussing an Aston product. Our country (U.S.) has also enacted some pretty stringent roll-over standards that have made the problem worse here, thick pillars and small greenhouses are the norm these days.

Still though...can we please have someone build cars we can actually see out of? Easier to park, easier to change lanes, even easier to withdraw one's Holland and Holland from the elongated boot?

Phwoar. Is there a better-looking estate?
Yes look in almost every car park across the land. There'll be a better looking estate.

That Rapide is utterly foul. I struggle with almost ever single view of that car. I'd go out on a limb to suggest that is one of the worst looking cars I've seen on this site. If this had a non-premium brand badge of the nose it would be laughed at.

How can a car design start life so beautifully as a DB9, then become uglier with the Rapide and finally ending up here at this mess? I can see why Aston don't change their styling. Because when they or others do it just looks worse.

Doesn't do it for me - kind of really plain looking.

It's neither elegant and delicate, nor purposeful. It's just, plain.

Another Bertone travesty.

God, I've just seen the grille! hurl

That's fking hideous IMO.
I could go on but I suspect you've got the point by now. But regardless I fail to see why having a view different from a majority is considered a bad thing.

If Aston dont make this they are missing out and shows the direction they are taking is potentially becoming the wrong one.

Merc are making stunning shooting brakes with big engines, the panamera sells extremely well world wide and they have an 'estate' version on the way.

This is a niche market and one that would help boost the profit of the struggling Rapide, be a silly silly move not to make it.

O.k its never going to sell in great numbers in the U.K but worldwide a market definately exists for such a car.

He isn't. Most of PH have been too polite to comment, whilst the fawning Aston fans knock one out over it. It is an automotive gargoyle.

Not completely convinced either way, but put side by side against the Panamera and it's an easy win for the Aston.

yes Aston export over 70% of their cars as an oener I'm not a fan of the Rapide but it means they can build 1-77's and V12 roadsters!

Can you fit a tow bar?

I bet I could get to Bridlington in a flash and beat the bank holiday rush with that.

Very strange. I love Astons. I love shooting brakes and fast estates. Bertone is one of my favorite carrozeria. So I should love this. For some reason, I just don't. Don't get me wrong, it is very good looking. I can't quite put my finger on it, I guess I was just expecting something a little more daring from the likes of Bertone, considering their past designs.

I have been telling people for the past few years the Scimitar GTE was way ahead of its time.

I run an Alfa 156 GTA SPORTWAGON as a tooling around car, a BMW X5 4.6 as an off roader, and a DB 9 Volante as a fun car. I'd buy the Aston tomorrow if it was made, especially if it was 4WD !

A one-off? My arse. This is just another increasingly boring pieces of internet enabled market research.
One of those, oooh let's release a shot and see what people have to say.

Fine for a mass market brand.

But at this end of the market, Aston should grow a set of balls and innovate. It's a great brand with huge heritage. For goodness sake, lead not follow.

Porsche beat them to this design evolution and Aston is playing catch up. Calling it a one-off is timid and like the DB9/Virage debacle, is a sign of brand weakness.

Rant over.
