In the early 80s, late 60s muscle cars were worth buttons. You could get hemi cudas, chargers, superbirds etc for almost scrap money. They had a redneck driver stereotype, and didn't have the collectors cache of 50s chrome Americana.

A generation later, and the kids of the 60s are in their 50s, with disposable income to spare and a desire to collect the hot cars of their youth. Hemi cudas now go for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The same will happen with Japanese muscle - we're just 15-20 years away.

Awesome write up, and well put about a car only being worth as much as someone wants to pay for it. Essentially your price might be high but if someone pays it then its worth it.

I've had the fortune of previously owning an r32 GTS-4 (4WD ATTESA from the GTR, but with the RB20DET engine), and currently have a daily driven R34 GTT although the annual mileage atm is around 5k per year.

I've had it up for sale for months now because I want good money for it as its an awesome car and honestly although I need to sell it because of daily driving it short distances isn't good for it and I could do with something more economical (plus the money would help my project car along). I digress anyway, the point being, I've got it up for "good" money and haven't even had people offering daft amounts for it, which surprises me.. I'd have assumed people would try their luck at least but they haven't. I think it's just a case of waiting for the right buyer to come along that's willing to look after the car like I have.

Have to agree with you on this one. A standard R32 has a kind of brutal beauty to it, that car hasn't.

Oh well, look on the bright side, the more people ruin them like this, the more the decent ones will be worth. wink

Its because they were slow and didnt fair well to modification.

The proper GT4 Wrc models are getting rare now and still cheap, catch a good one of those and leave well alone and think they will appreciate at some point.
The problem with Celicas has always been that they are far too heavy.

I remember genuinely being shocked at the ST205 GT-4s weight.

Haha, thanks. I'm a true lurker, daily reader of the site just don't have the time to post most of the time. But as this article was very relevant to me currently thought I should make the effort for once biggrin

Couple of quick pics of the GTS-4 I had. Was an awesome car, especially through winter, but the 34 came up so I decided it was time for an upgrade:

And my current daily (You can see why I upgraded):

Interesting responses & comments to this advert. The Skyline GT-R in this article was reserved last week, so the question of whether it's worth the money or not is proven. This Skyline GT-R will be going to a lucky owner in Finland shortly. We don't stock a lot of R32 GT-R's simply because of the lack of proper quality examples even in Japan. Last year we supplied around 10, this year probably less despite scouring Japan each 7 every day for the best examples available.
Having said that, we do have two in stock, one built by Bee-R and another tuned by Garage Saurus (Japan) coming into stock. Will update later as the later is being uploaded to our site / Pistonheads later today or tommorow.

Lastly and the one I love is when you get flashed or signed by other roads users in normal cars to "slow down", despite again only doing 30mph as it's a bit louder then usual and it's got a spoiler on it so he MUST be going too fast. (All the reasons above are partly why I got rid of mine).
Haha, this is so true. I brought my R32 to work a few weeks back, crawled slowly over the speed bumps and parked up. Ended up being reported to health and safety for speeding in the car park, I doubt I exceeded walking pace.

I wonder if Chris Harris would have any doubt about the value of the latest one we have in stock.

I know you sell nice cars but I fail to believe any car that has been used and is over 10 years old is completely rust free.

There is no rust on any nuts / bolts, exhaust, subframes etc ?

That's a lovely car no doubt. Any ideas what an unmolested V-spec II would cost? (if you could find one)

Rusty nut/bolt is hardly a disqualifying factor, is it? (I'm talking light/surface rust here, not 100% oxidized touch me and I'll disintegrate)
You can probably find those on a brand new cars in a dealership.

Couple of pics of mine - with a good few years in between them!

Not fitted with the BBS wheels (they were just fitted whilst my white Advans were refurbed and painted silver).

I happen to love the late 80's early 90's touring car era. Had a couple of E30 M3's and always loved the R32 GTR, so was lucky emough to get this one.

Nowhere near standard.....nearer Group A touring car power than standard!!

Hope you like.....if not, well then not too bothered!

As much as I love the Advans, it looks perfect to me with the BBS LM's

Looking very shiny there Mark! Must check you're thread for the repainted wheels.

I see that Porsches have been mentioned but not the 'Ring - I though that this was obligatory for all GTR threads?

Yes

If there is any rust at all anywhere then it isn't "completely rust free" is it.
