RE: Spotted: Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32)

Oh and the car linked in Chris's article is most probably a V-Spec II as it's a 94 car and some of the body addenda looks right. Strange that this isn't mentioned in the advert at all as it would make the car even better value since it's the last of the line edition and only 1300 or so where made (probably A LOT less in existence now)

Why is it that so many people feel the need to post that a car cost y 2 months ago yet is up for 1.5y today?
Perhaps because the point of web forums is to share interesting or useful information with each other, and a car's previous selling price is both interesting and useful to potential buyers. If you don't want transparency then a web forum is a poor place to try and sell your car.

How on earth could you think that it is a V-Spec II? NomduJour said:

How on earth could you think that it is a V-Spec II? On a seperate note I'm starting to find your "stalking" of me a bit worrying tbh. Popping up on several threads, aggressively proclaiming that I am wrong is getting to be a bit of a worrying trend for you. Perhaps rather than responding cryptically in a negative manner, you'd care to enlighten us with your obviously greater knowledge?

"stalking"
My apologies - no idea who you are and I don't recognise the screen name.V-Specs and V-Spec IIs will always be identified as such, given their rarity (and it's easy to do via the chassis number). They didn't come with the Nismo body bits (of which that car only has the bumper vents) and they were built alongside the regular cars. Visibly they had 17" BBS wheels and Brembo brakes.
i have never really like the R32 Gtr, having always prefered the R33 an R34...but have to say if i could find a nice standard one (in white preferably) with normal wheels etc , i think i'd take the plunge.
blindingly fast, good grip, spacious inside, big boot and reliable in standard tune...whats not to like....just need R34 prices to start dropping now...

Aha much more informative, thanks V-Specs and V-Spec IIs will always be identified as such, given their rarity (and it's easy to do via the chassis number). Didn't realise they were built alongside the regular models, I thought they were like a last of the line run out model built in 94.
In that case Chris ignore this car and search out a proper V-spec II instead. They'll be worth a lot more in the long run IMO.
Interesting article. I have seen cars that I would be happy to pay more for, but knowing that I am the only one (possibly) means that the undelying value is still low, as when I come to sell it, it won't be worth as much. take the Omega. Most depreciated car, yet I loved mine and would pay (if I had the money) £5k for a decent 02 plate V6 model with manual box. I think they are worth it and more. Yet they only sell for peanuts (£1799 albeit an Auto). But as mentioned, I would not pay £5k, because it is not worth it when selling on, so not worth it to me either. The price has basically been set by other peoples standards.
I often think that people (an Owners club etc) can make a bike or car more valuable by all putting the price up, and people will be willing to pay (to an extent) because it is worth it, in resale terms.
Just my thoughts

If you were after a standard car to put in your collection, I'd look for one of the Nismo homologation cars or a V-Spec II (or a V-Spec II N1). Not as much fun though.NomduJour said:

Nope which is why I'd get a mint one of the above you've mentioned, do the mods to make it more fun but keep the OE parts safely wrapped up somewhere. Then at some point in the future if I wanted to "cash in", I'd simply return the car to totally standard spec and sell off all the after market bits. More driving fun while you own it and a better return at the end. Best of both worlds. ellisd82 said:

I think owners clubs just like to think their cars are worth more (guilty myself) Just my thoughts
There is a certain warm fuzzy feeling of security buying from an owners club/owners forum, as you "expect" the car to have been maintained and cosseted and i dont doubt most of them are, but its not always the case.
My particular blend of car is attracting a certain generation/crowd these days and its not having a good effect on value Lets hope the GTR doesnt follow the same route to certain value destruction!
Its a buyers market any car price should be knocked right down,i am looking for a 320 BMW convertible on around a 2002 and wont be paying more than £2,500 watching a few on ebay, also a black mini cooper s 2002 with leather at £2400 with 30 mins left. cars are not selling unless there cheap.
