Huh?
What? Assuming you watched the video and read a couple of the replies from people on here stating they dont believe the Ferrari claimed performance, I dont know why your confused?loved the video,
the Merc is amazing for such type of car.
the Mclaren came from outer space which is nice for a supercar.
the La(The)Ferrari looks pretty amazing too and his 0 to 300km/h is just mind boggling fast.
The Porsche GT3 has some very nice wheels, love those!!
also impressing specs from that engine 475hp? and revs that reach the sky?
great engineering.

I'd love to see what McLaren could do in the small sports car sector; something that can be exploited at 7/10 without losing your license, combined with Ron's attention to detail.
Even quite mundane cars these days are capable enough to lose you your licence at 7/10. I can't imagine McLaren building anything slow enough to hit that brief.Edited by otolith on Saturday 9th March 17:02

Looks like the fun police are out in force in this thread! Now, I'll never attempt to do tail-out antics like in the vid on a public road. Lots of reasons for that, lack of talent for one. However, watching Chris do it in his vids is a bit of an escapism for me, so I for one, enjoy watching the slidey stuff.
Funny that, I hate the way they do it Top Gear with acres of space on a track, it doesn't look all that impressive or fun, when they eventually spin.
Would like to have had Chris talk about other cars on display rather than have a test in the middle though, that could have been kept as a separate piece.
I think top gear is all completely scripted anyway every 'spin' or only just stopping in time before the runway ends moment has probably been done many times so it looks just right. I have a theory that a lot of the sideways stylie driving that Clarkson et al do is not actually them driving anyway. With the outside shots I don't see any reason why they need a presenter when it would be easiyer to use a skilled professional to get the take.Funny that, I hate the way they do it Top Gear with acres of space on a track, it doesn't look all that impressive or fun, when they eventually spin.

Fifth Gear with Tiff Jason and V B-H don't have that same problem.
I also take exception to this Hypercar term which I think Top Gear coined whats wrong with Supercar they are super and fast but they can't do Hyperspeed or take you into Hyperspace

Had it been a stand alone vid, I wouldn't have watched it. Needed more time at the show. Notice CH was no where near the LAF though. Burnt his bridges well and truly?

The acceleration time? The McLaren has less power and more downforce, hence is going to be slower. The McLaren's schtick is all about downforce for lap time.
Why are you telling me about the downforce on a P1? All I said was I dont believe Ferraris figures.

So why should you believe McLaren's figures?
"Ron, we published incorrect data for the cars""Hey Luca, the figures for the new car, maybe they were a bit optimistic"
I can only imagine one of those scenarios being met with a shrug
As a side note I was reading some stuff about the Porsche 918 in the article they were claiming 0-186 in 27 secs, I would imagine they are looking at ways to improve that in the face of the P1/LAF times.

You are right, it's all scripted in TG, still I hate the way they do the tyre squealing sideways stuff when they are trying to show how well a car handles and corners. It looks stupid, IMO!Fifth Gear with Tiff Jason and V B-H don't have that same problem.

I think the term 'hypercar' sort of differentiates the 'normal' supercars in a lot different ways. Exclusivity and cutting-edge tech are important distinctions in these cars compared to 'supercars' such as Aventador/12C/F12, so I think its quite useful...

I'd argue to build something that was the price of a Carrera S or an R8 with the same build quality/power and BETTER than both is actually far, far harder than to build a 12C or P1. McLaren/Ferrari just aren't up to it.
Wait a minute isn't this exactly the McLaren plan, supercar '11 > hypercar '13 > sports car '15, with the sports car being very much in a 991 market but with the same carbon tub as it's more expensive brethren. stephen300o said:

Why do keep replying to me about the Mclaren, when (and I repeat) all I said was I dont believe the Ferrari claimed figures.
