RE: SOTW: Peugeot 406 Coupe
Discussion
I had one of these as my penultimate company car many years ago. Had it for 2 years. At the time I thought it was a right sports car. Lmao. It wasn't. Live and learn eh. Still, was nice for trekking around. Did France in it with the wife and the kids who were then 1 and 3 (now 13 and 15) and it coped with loads of luggage and 3 bikes on the back.

107k is hardly stellar on a V6 - that's just run in! I was expecting 200k+. I keep having thoughts about these. I bought a 306 Diesel last year after testing a 406 HDi Coupe. The put-offs were the higher tax band, absurd insurance (because body panels / parts are so bloody expensive!) and worse fuel economy.
I keep trying to talk myself into one again though, if a decent one comes up towards the end of the year I'm hoping turning 25 will reduce the insurance enough!
Other thing is that they feel incredibly big to drive. I think I read somewhere that the Coupe is actually longer than the saloon it's based on? Not sure how true that is!

Buy it - spend a few more quid on a bodykit - et voila ! A v.cheap Fezza ....
I'm not a fan of body kits, a bit too max power, but this one seems nice.http://www.extreme-sportscars.com/360/extras.html
406 v6 is nice in a lazy sort of way, I remember driving one a few years back. Not a road scalpel but quick and pleasant.
I had a 2.2 hdi one for a year, fully loaded.
I got a free 180 bhp remap from the 406coupe club and worked fine, felt and was very fast. Returned about 35 mpg fast driving all day.
A few problems associated with diesel system, but brakes (non brmebo) etc all pretty reasonable priced, but not main dealers as usual..
No electrical problems and drove well, as good as a 306 for me, just comfier.
Door hinges and rust by sill a problem.. window drop 5mm on close failing as well. Insurance is high.
Breakers Parts can be had from ade off 406couple club, so no issue with cost/supply.

Really? Really???
That sounds like the best bit of guerila-bullst PR ever.
Will Ferrari ever get over missing out on adding a 1.9 Turbodiesel Taxi to their lineup ?That sounds like the best bit of guerila-bullst PR ever.
I had a 4 door 2.1 Diesel, reasonable comfy taxi with deranged electrics, in no way whatsoever a Sports car with any engine or body config.

isn't it extremely ironic that a replica manufacturer has the tag line "there is no substitute" ?http://www.extreme-sportscars.com/360/extras.html
