Once you get to the point where you're making a car less good at what it's intended to do, it's pretty much a given that you're going to lose the respect of those who are into cars because of driving rather than posing. It's your car, though, and you can use it how you choose.
Exactly, and this is PH, "Speed matters" not "Getting approval from a bunch of like-minded young guys in a car park or quiet lay-by matters". I'm sure there are websites across the net that were founded with the intention of allowing people to appraise each other's similarly ruined cars, but this is not one of them, so you can't expect everyone to love it.

Aesthetic modification has it's place, no one can deny that, but the Pistonhead, as opposed to the Stancehead, if you will, puts performance first, aesthetics later. And when aesthetics start to erode performance, you really have gone wide of the mark.

Tyres are inside the arches, it is lowered, maybe not to a degree of some of the other cars.

You just don't want to admit you like one of the cars in this thread! wink
You're not very good at reading people.

That's why I'm curious to know what degree of compromised performance those on the scene are willing to accept to get the look they want.

As posted... I'm pretty sure the 'scene' types don't really know what the 'scene' is about - a bit of lowering and aftermarket wheels does not qualify for 'stanced'.

Apparently not.

Apologies for trying to avoid this thread turning into a (bigger) slanging match.

Point is it's an amazing looking car that is different from standard spec, maybe not stanced but dear me it looks pretty fking good.

It's Pistonheads. Stancing is the work of the devil, just try to ignore these comments and don't forget that there is a big difference between an argument and a debate. As for the Skyline, I'm happy to admit I like it because it has tasteful mods and it hasn't be ruined by stretched tyres, really low suspension and awful wheels.

It's missing a battered suitcase, tricycle missing a wheel and a rusty jerry can, though.

I like that but I probably wouldn't like it so much if the camera work wasn't so good.

You know what, this thread has made me like the stanced look even more than i used to. Its not my thing so much any more, but I do like to look at a well stanced car, as I can appreciate the amount of effort that goes into making it, well, just right, every mm counts when it comes to stancing.

Those that hate it, that pour over the fact that people are 'ruining' cars and driving around in 'death traps' are more misguided and ridiculous than the people they're mocking for doing this kind of thing. I mean, they're not driving the car, paying for, living with it every day, it doesn't affect them in any way, yet they're so vocal about how bad it is!

People are enjoying cars FFS, we're all here for roughly the same reason. One guy might drive an old MG-A whilst the next drives a modified Ferrari 348. I don't see the appeal of one of these cars myself but fk me do I applaud you having a passion for it. You could be a Deawoo Lanon enthusiast for all I care, but as long as your getting your kicks from motors, crack on!
