Quoting anything about top gear is as car related as The National Enquirer is true story related.

The Top Gear stat must be wrong. Fastest Star lap is 1:42.1, Matt Le Blanc. Which would put the McLaren at 1:32.1 the same as a Focus RS.

Huayra is 1:13.8. So if it is that time it has beaten by 10 seconds that puts it at 1:03 only 4 seconds slower than the Renault F1 car which was chucked around a while back.

macca looks fantastic but im sure it will be soleless.

wheres the old school fun

I miss the F40
Don't worry, 'oldschool' still exists... I believe it's now called ahem 'Henessey Venom GT'. And it would be where I would spend my hypothetical million without shame... these Macca and Fezza efforts are mind-bogglingly clever but at the end of the day for me cars in this bracket are about sensation... about getting the driver wired on so much adrenaline you almost can't control it... it's like a powerful drug. Rich people can hook themselves up any time they like. I absolutely enjoyed Meaden's recent Evo article which spelt this out...

So it's all about the aero ... which is why (to me, at least) none of the cars is particularly good looking. I guess for a hypercar then that has to be the case but can someone build a supercar that's pretty?
Going back to the 60's & 70's supercars, they were very beautiful and are a pleasure to behold, but many with 300+bhp were always slightly prone to trying to launch themselves into the air once past 150 mph, mainly due to their good looking curves.

It gets harder to make a car look fab now due to legistlation and aero issues, so with all things considered, the P1 & LAF have managed to do okay, even with their restrictions. Not so the Lambrini.

Ah, but Ron Dennis is no Stig! Maybe he did match the Focus RS time after all! hehe

I suspect the latter is true though, and absolutely mental, if so. I also suspect some licence with the truth is taken by TG reporting. It is TG after all!

God only knows what the time would be.

I can imagine the F1 time being way off what you'd expect it to be though - it's not the sort of track where you're going to get up to the sort of speeds they're working effectively, either aero wise or tyres. Even brakes.

1.03 seems too fast..if it is that quick, in the hands of Ron Dennis it is a huge leap forward

Agreed.

Having been lucky enough to have some very spirited passenger rides in a lot of old and new exotica/HyperCars, the most enjoyable cars are the raw ones. Not the fastest.
Hate to say it but the MP12-4C really wasn't that exciting in comparison to others. Yes it was blisteringly quick, but very little soul and according to the driver it's just too good, too precise, too predictable and as a result not exciting. He sold it not very long after buying.

I just hope that the P1 doesn't follow suit in that respect.

The P1 looks very good, but for me the LaFerrari is winning my vote in this battle so far, despite the awful name!

Really hope we get to see a head to head battle.

I have very little interest in the Lambo in comparison to the other two. Insanely expensive and IMO really not a looker, very much doubt we will see this one out on the tracks....

All I can picture now is Ron Dennis manically thrashing the P1 around Dunsfold at warp speed.

I'm not sure if its a good image or not.

It does to me, but not because of the numbers. McLaren is British and therefore superior to an imported spagetti wagon biggrin

Joking aside, I do love Italian products. But on the rare occasion there is a premium UK product (very rare these days) I think it should be supported 100%.

Depends what you call "exciting" - looking on WreckedExotics there seem to be regular impacts between Ferraris and various inanimate objects. Heading backwards into a ditch may be exciting, but not something I'd like to do in any car.

As other have said i would like to see at what speeds the 600kg of downforce is created at.

Funny how all the manufactures have missed the ticket with aero concepts. There are ways to have decnet downforce at low speeds! wink

This really has very little relevance... When did I say I find crashing exciting?

I was saying that a car that is more raw is more exciting in my opinion. Something that perhaps takes a bit of concentration and skill to drive, a car that sounds rights, gives the right feedback and handles right, one that feels rewarding and special to drive.
To me speed isn't everything - yet to many quite simply the quicker car will be the 'best' car.

Saddens me to say this.. but judging by the pics the McLaren is the more cohesive and convincing design.. and this is coming from an Italian!
The Lambo is a complete and utter mess, looks like it has been drawn by a 3 year old, and the Ferrari, though better, still not convincing. Will wait till I see on video before calling it.
