The R8 is a problem for the Gallardo for sure. If the R8 didn't exist, I would have bought a gallardo, but because it does I got one and it was much newer and much less miles for the same price.

The relatively tiny running costs helped too.

Interesting comment, i kind of highlighted to this in the other Lambo thread, how can a brand work best competing against itself in house between its models.

That being said, regardless of year, mileage etc i would never buy an R8 in preference to a Gallardo, but i am glad you did as it gives substance to my question.

It wasn't in preference - I'd prefer a Gallardo any day. It just made more sense all round and was still 95% the same car.

Seems only to work at this level though - I'd probably stretch to get the VW or Audi equivalent of a Skoda. Go figure.

So yesterday I thought, Monkey had a point. 10 years old, the Gallardo is needing freshening up. Then in comes this today and I'm left thinking what a triumph of design the Gallardo is and how the old school 3 pedal 2wd setup somehow suits a car that is having to hold its own against more talented metal. It is worth pointing out that while the 458 is firmly in the £200K club these days, the Gallardo really occupies a space of its own in old 430 price territory. Darn you Pistonheads - now I have to think again!

It's hard to believe this car design is 10 years old now, it still just looks so good, and a RWD version of this car has always been the one I wanted. Mmmmmm. Yes Yes Yes

I didn't read Chris as slating the G per se, rather Lambos failure to build a successor, while simultaneously producing hideous also-ran hyper-cars like the revolton and venereal.

An early Gallardo is on my wish list.

They are just a little to pricey still for me, but I'm regretting spending £56k on a 997S a few years back....if I'd have waited, the same would get me a good Gallardo, and it would retain its value at least!

From a styling point of view, the early cars look great in my eyes.....the later editions seem to be trying too hard.

Still a fresh looking car. One of the most beautiful cars ever made. Will take mine in yellow please!

I think the Gallardo has still got great looks and has aged well in this age of everything being revised after 5 minutes.
I drove one of these and a Murcielago on a track a few years ago and preferred the G. It was smaller and felt more useable on our roads. The M was massive.

That 550-2 is absolutely fecking lovely.

PH - i hate you - i've just had to open a new tab to buy a lottery ticket JUST BECAUSE I LIKE THAT CAR SO MUCH!

ok, calm down.. but really, 2wd, black with black, manual, steel brakes, black calipers - whoever spec'd that deserves a medal. just hope there is a car like that available when my numbers do eventually come up.

2WD, manual gears - I would! Definitely!! Plus it's compact enough to 'work' effectively on our A and B roads. I bet any PH'er here, given the keys to this machine, would really enjoy punting it around the UK (off peak hours. of course).
I am with you thumbup the balboni is my favourite gallardo so this will do nicely, RWD & a manual box & a thumping engine equals heaven to me!

I agree, Lamborghini has always been my favourite supercar but the fact that they now have the VAG dullness sprinkled over then does tarnish the desirability of them imo, having owned a TVR it wouldn't bother me if they didn't work all the time & were purely Italian!

I never realised how much I hated VAG products until we bought an Audi they are such hopeless driving machines...never again.

That is very true, but he did wonder how they could sell any. Surely it is a unique proposition at that point in the junior supercar marketplace (R8 not withstanding - though that is 4wd only). I do agree with the comments that the R8 is the Gallardo's biggest competitor and what a peach of a car it is.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Reventon was a fantastic looking thing?

Yes, but you still had the choice between two cars in the same market sector from the same "owner". I am afraid this is something i just cant get my head around, yes i am sure there are some like myself who dont see a choice between the two, but perhaps someone more sensible does see the choice and will plumb for the sensible option.

Interesting also that Porsche have managed to basically stick to the same design principal, shape etc with the 911 and no journos ever seem to say, are Porsche stuck in a rut. Obviously they are profitable so maybe there is no need, but with recent threads re Lamborghinis sales figures, have they got anything to worry about?

I'm thinking it's uglier that an LP700-4, older, slower and 3 times as much.
