tell you what, FORD still know how to make a good hot hatch. This little beauty will deliver 90 % of the thrills that the die-hard frenchie fans seem to long for, but without any of the drawbacks.

The clio's, pugs etc all have the same problem. Good fun cars, but ste interiors with nasty plastics, patchy build quality and overall no where near as nice as just a car (compared to a modern Ford or VW etc). Ford have come a long long way and they make probaby the best value mainstream cars for price vs quality. And for me, I would get fed up of a daily driver that is a good hot hatch but a crap car. I want both...

I wonder if it'll have tiny drum brakes on the rear? The previous ones did, even the ones I've seen with Mountune on (I'm talking the cars with Yellow door mirrors etc) yeah cos that's sporty isn't it? rolleyes

Also, how come people are saying 200 PS ? the article states HP, I think PS is lower than HP.
It has discs on the back. I believe it's the first MK7 Fiesta to have rear disc brakes.

Same as the last generation, the ST was the only one to get discs then too.
Thanks, I have definately seen Mountune ST's with rear drums. I remember thinking at the time, wtf ? I know that Ford don't seem to like rear discs on their cars, but this confused me.

Ford quote their figures in PS so I think that's why people mention it (it's why I mention it anyway).

If memory serves, the car is actually 182PS which is about 180BHP.

ETA: Having reread the original article it looks as though the car is 182BHP so that would be 184-185PS.
Thanks.

Nice review.

Considering the current vogue for hatches with hideously over-sized headlamps and gopping grilles - new Clio, 208, A-class, et al - IMHO the ST's front-end isn't bad.

Not keen on the chintzy cabin. And it's a shame that, similar to the Focus, the front wheel-arch design vs the rear's creates an illusion that the rear wheels are smaller than the fronts (when the car's viewed in profile) irked

But hey, 10 years ago, who would've imagined that cars like the ST could crack 0-62 in 6.9secs and have an NEDC combined of 47.9mpg. Impressive clap

I've been seeing these every day for the last 8 months or so at work, and each time I see one I want one.

Brilliant thing.

Can someone explain to me why, here in 2013, cars seem to be designed so that this guy doesn't need to take his hat off when driving??

It would look a lot less "top heavy" like this:

"XR2 and XR2i, RS 1800 and Turbo" - They might not have quite been up there with Peugeot's best offerings (indeed, the 205 GTi - 106 GTi/Rallye - 306 GTi-6/Rallye family tree is a lineage of some of the best enthusiast cars ever made). That said, they are a damn sight better than the average two tonne flappy paddle 'hot hatch' made these days.

That said, if anyone can triumph in this market it is Ford, since Peugeot seem to have largely given up on the segment and lost their way with the 206 GTi. This Fiesta could be the best of the current bunch for driver enjoyment, since the obvious Renaultsport rival is coupled with a flappy paddle 'box.

^ They're doing 4.9% on the standard Fiesta, so maybe they'll extend it to the ST?

Wow! Seriously considering changing my golf R32 - assuming I can sell it for circa ~9.5k i'd have a bit of £££ at bank too!

£4k deposit and no options keeps the basic car at around £200 per month on a 2 or 3 year PCP.

As I was hoping. Great news. Everyone needs to buy one and send Ford the message that this is what we want!

The two cars that would stop me buying a fiesta ST would be the focus ST and the Focus Zetec S which has the same motor, more space and benefits from the same ability to be taken to 200hp by mountune.

I'm not certain of prices but even if you take the Focus ST out of the picture the ZS would probably suit my needs more.

I definetly want to drive a fiesta ST as I'd love to see how much better (or not) it is than the Puma.
