Had a Type S myself and it was one of the cars that stayed longest in my garage. Black on black with red stitching, fake carbon fibre instead of wood, and the ATTS was brilliant. Add Tein suspension, K&N filter, Mugen muffler, Konig wheels and a nitrous system and it was the fastest point to point car I have owned. So forgiving and easy to drive 10 10ths.

See the price has been reduced to a very tempting £1994

Nice car, chap; it looks great.

Decent Preludes are difficult to value in the UK. A good condition VTi is quite a capable all-round GT car, yet often struggle to crack £1k when selling. It's an awful lot of car for the money. The problem is they are rare and almost completely under the radar with the buying public. Good when buying, not so much when it comes to sell.

Had a few different Preludes over the years including the Type S, which was a great car.

I now currently run a 2000 Motegi Ha22-A8 redtop (same as in article)which I bought for 1400! I'd say this is the best one i'm owned.

I sold my 330ci before buying the Prelude and made a tidy bit of cash in the process! Much more involving drive then the BM, although not as refined. The VTEC crossover makes up for that though.
Interesting comparo; I've often wondered what someone going in that direction would make of the two cars.

Of course the press at the time was overtly biased in the opposite direction...

Often wondered why Honda made the Accord Coupe when they also made the Prelude, or vice versa. scratchchin

Had a Gen 4 Prelude, lovely car, comedy rear seats & not much boot space but that's not really the point.
Loved THAT dashboard biggrin
The Accord coupe's I've seen stateside all have relatively usable back seats. The Prelude's rear seats were for the proverbial legless dwarfs. You sit lower in the Prelude than in the Accord coupe too. (I had a 4th generation 1996 with the 2.2 litre engine when I lived in NZ 13 years ago - it was an excellent car)

Horses for courses? Products for buyers? Ford with the Puma and Cougar? Honda at the same time must have had the Civic Coupe, Accord Coupe and Prelude for sale.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread!

I'm seriously considering moving on my MR2 after finally getting itchy feet. I was going to go MR2 Turbo but the insurance is not on for now. Basically, I am a Jap car lover at heart. So I'm looking to experience something new and completely different, but still with a thrill and novelty. And I want to keep it Jap. I love the look of the Motegi Prelude. The 4WS doesn't really appeal to me, but i'm sure it has its perks. But I do like the looks, the interior looks cosy, and it seems to be well equipped. Most importantly, it's in budget for me. I couldn't spend more than £2000 on changing cars really, so anything more exotic (Integra, Type R, Skyline) are out of the picture for now. The Prelude appeals to me for reasons i can't quite put my finger on. I've also considered the Galant and Soarer. All three of these cars are rare on the ground, and difficult to find a good one. Anyway...

Looking for personal experiences of Prelude vs MR2 NA please! smile

Or any other suggestions for interesting Jap motors around £2k. It's not a daily driver either. Do around 5000 pleasure miles per year.

If you are a coupe man you could do a lot worse than an Accord coupe V6. £1k will now get you a very nice one and a little more will get the best about. 3.0V6 mated to a 4 speed slushmatic, so no sportscar, but is a super wafter that sounds nice and goes nicely. Also very rare. And yes I am bias as I have had mine for two and a half years now!

Or how about a last of the line LS400 and keep £500 of your budget in your pocket?

If anyone fancies a Type S, I might sell mine soon, had it 10 years and has been a good car, 100k, MOT august I think, its got an bit of an electrical problem at the moment so if anyone thinks they can fix could be cheaper than some others?

What sets the Type S apart from the others? And what exactly is the electrical problem?

I will certainly take a look at a V6 Accord. I had noticed a couple in the classifieds but completely ignored them. Will take a look at the LS400 too! Thanks. smile

Bit more power. ATTS (active yaw sort of thing). Half leather interior. Honda Access red/yellow suspension. No 4WS. No sunroof. Manual of course (lovely gearbox).

Condition - not too bad for age. In the process of tidying it a little.

Right, electrical problem is intermittent problem with maintaining ignition. Revs drop low and key and revs has to be used to get it going again.

New dizzy tried. Still have original JDM dizzy. Don't think was anything wrong with it.

Currently sporting black powder coated wheels.

Any ideas before I get sick of looking at it parked up?

I've had 4, all 2.2 manuals, 2 were red tops. Rear space a bit cramped but they are great to drive. A real solid weighted feel to the handling, and handling at high speed was simply stunning.

Sorry I missed this. Sounds perfect apart from the issue. I'm miffed frown I suppose you would have to go through all of the ignition components one by one. When was it all replaced, if ever? Where are you based? Wouldn't mind helping with a spanner and taking a look over the car smile

You are welcome to come and have a good look around. So far its had new plugs and a new dizzy. I'd rather it went to an enthusiast than get parted out etc. It still drives ace (like a go cart after driving my e39) but does need a bit of TLC now. In in West Midlands, feel free to pm me.
