In the same way the 5 series sits below the 6 series? Do more doors equal more prestige?
That's BMW's thing. The 6 series is a coupe version of the 5 series and that's what they're going to do with the 3-series now, for uniformity; the 3-series will have 5 doors and the 4-series will be the coupe version.

Who says it's about prestige? It's about size. A larger car has 3 doors standard and the smaller car has 5 doors standard (renaultsport versions only). There's something illogical about that and I bet the next Megane RS will have at least 5 doors as standard, maybe more biggrin

A 1.6 turbo unit would have no doubt made the car more usable every day - which surly is what a hot hatch is all about?
Exactly, i think recently that the term "hot hatch" appears to have changed to mean some sort of balls out performance weapon that happens to be based on a small family car...it inst and never was....for those of us who grew up on "hot hatches" it meant a car that you could trundle down the shops in, take your mates (or family) places in relative comfort, but then go out an have a bit of fast fun with when you wanted to.

If anything, to me at least (having owned numerous hot hatches in the past), the Renault is the ultimate expression of what i would describe as a hot hatch, it has the space, doors, and on paper refinement to do all the daily tasks, but then should be able to show a clean pair of heels to most things on the road when you want to, and attack a back road with a smile on your face.

Was the Mk2 golf GTI 16v 5 door, ever ridiculed or considered less of a performance car for having 5 doors...no it was not. VW have been making DSG equipped GTI's for nearly a decade, as i understand it these are preferred by many to their manual counterparts because, most of the time they are being used for commuting in traffic among other things, yes they are quicker than the manuals and more fuel efficient as well but that is just a by product, but certainly not one that results in the "auto" equipped cars being thought of as worse.

Very photogenic. It looks like the Megane RS's kid brother there. Succeeds with adding a couple of doors but keeping that sporty 3 door look.

Really is alot nicer in the flesh, and it was initially rolling beside a mk7 fiesta. Its no bigger!!!

So it will probably end up being a real cracker!! Not too big, will probably handle well, has the power and RS dans will probably still buy one if they test drive them!!

Sat in a new Clio at the renault showroom. Drivers seat pushed right back means no rear room but plenty of driver leg space and room, loads of clearance from the steering wheel too.
