RE: Renaultsport Clio 200 price confirmed
Discussion
I'm waiting for delivery of an ST2 with all the extras except sat nav which I paid a few hundred pounds less than £16995 so you can get a fair amount off if you haggle.
I quite like the new Clio also, but not sure about the yellow at that angle on the big photo, the red on the non RS in the advert looks quite nice though.
Also don't you get 4 years warranty now with Renault?

fk me i feel old (i'm 34).
£19k for a clio.
£15,000 in 2002 when the 172 was at its height is £19,500 today.£19k for a clio.
Yes you are getting old.
Some people will never buy a new car, this i accept, however its boring when they feel the need to spout on about how "expensive new cars are"
Equipment and tech is way above that of the Fiesta so comparing the cars £ for £ isn't really a good idea. The Fiesta is still great value for money mind you, don't get me wrong! Also, the Clio comes with 4+, so 4 years of warranty, breakdown cover and servicing included within the price.
Some option prices:
Cup chassis and 18" wheels £450
18" wheels £185
Monitor £95
Climate control £410 (standard on Lux)
Extra tint £250 (Standard on Lux)
Leather £1000
Heated seats £250
Rear sensors £315
Rear camera £350
Metallic £495
Flame red £595
Liquid yellow £1300

Not having bought a new car for a decade, I was surprised how much things have crept up.
I can perfectly well afford one (cash, not credit) but struggle to justify spending this sort of money on a car that does less than 10 miles a day to the train station and back.
i don't have a problem with the gearbox, i don;t have a problem with the styling, however i do have a problem with the 4 doors.
I am looking for a warm hatch to use as a daily driver and have to admit i am very close to ordering a new Fiesta ST which seems to tick all the boxes, for ultimate track thrills i have my Type R so this would be a small runabout which is still fun.
So i look forward to seeing the review , i hope Chris Harris does one of his reviews as i think this is an important sector now. Scary that this is priced more than the Megane sport was back in 2003 though. In an age when salaries have not increased int he last 8 years its mad to see how much cars have moved on in pricing.

That's sort of the point though - they haven't. Real-terms new car prices have been dropping pretty continuously since the motor car was invented. My perception is things have crept up.
Reality is clearly different.
Second hand hot Clios are such bargains, but with a dual clutch box, how many people with say £5-7k to spend on such a car will want to risk purchasing one? They sound expensive and therefore expensive to fix...
Having never spent any considerable amount of time with one, I take it modern dual clutches are as reliable as manual boxes?

Well you have just proven my point then. If you earned more money you would be able to justify spending it on a car wouldn't you....regardless of your current income or transportation needs.BUT, to your point, one imagines that the vast majority of people will be financing or leasing, so the list price of little or no consequence. Would i spend £20k on a new car...no...but would i lease one for a few years for what £400 a month perhaps.....quite possibly
Now think on...the age of people who are going to be in the market for a grown up hot hatch are quite possibly going to be in the "kid zone", if you are nearing the age (i am in it) are they likely to be signing up to a 3 year deal on a 3 door car when there is a danger of needing a couple of extra doors in the financed period...no they will go for the 5 door. Personally i think Renault's approach makes perfect sense.
Do people buy new hot hatches as a weekend fun tool? NO they buy them as a daily driver that is capable of the daily slog and a bit of fun on the side, that is the point of a hot hatch.
