Rental cars.
Nice one.
But what happens when it gets back to the hire company? Does the CDW cover that kind of thing? Even if you tell the truth...
To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I don't know if I'd be comfortable renting a car knowing there's a good chance of it getting wrecked. One half of me says "It's a rental and insured - go for it"; the other "It's not exactly fair to the rental / insurance company to take risks you wouldn't in your own car". Nice one.

I'd probably feel a lot better about buying a banger to do that sort of thing. - Something rubbish and that I don't like so I can laugh whilst I torture it. However, I was irritated watching Clarkson & Co destroy those perfectly good estates in Africa recently so feel free to ignore my sensibilities!
I'm surprised somebody managed to crash into a parked car on a massive lake but that was pure stupidity.
Personally I'd take my own car and be prepared to leave it's remains there, the ferry to Sweden isn't that expensive.

TBH while I was annoyed over the (fairly rare) BL stuff and what looked like a perfectly good CX estate getting destroyed non of the £1500 estates were rare or especially good examples. There are currently thousands of 5 series, Volvos and Scoobies on sale at the moment.CDP said:

Just like there were thousands of, for example, E34 5'ers or Vauxhall Carltons in the late '90s...now a good one is hard to find. - It'd have been more interesting (to me) to watch them properly modify the cars for the challenge of running about in third world countries, then see how far they can really get. - Pissing about with toilet seats and cutting holes in body panels is alright for a cheap laugh, but FFS use a Daewoo Matiz or something that nobody will miss if you want to do something like that. There can't be too many 850Rs around now, can there, so why destroy one?If I said: "I've got an idea: Let's play "car football" with McLaren F1s and Ferrari F40s...that'll be a laugh!", many PH'ers would probably want to feed me into a wood chipper. Okay, that's an extreme example, but I feel similarly about wrecking rare or notable cars just for the sake of it.
Damn, I sound like a grumpy old git...and I'm only 24!

But there's a huge difference between picking a scruffy example of something currently commonplace that would be unlikely to survive compared with a rarity that's survived due to it's previous careful owners. The sound classics now would probably have been pristine at ten to fifteen years old, these cars were not and would be kept until their next big bill.If I said: "I've got an idea: Let's play "car football" with McLaren F1s and Ferrari F40s...that'll be a laugh!", many PH'ers would probably want to feed me into a wood chipper. Whilst your point is valid, as I said: I'd rather have seen them do a feature on buying & restoring interesting and unusual cars, and another on wrecking boring, appliance-type dross.Clivey said:

A genuine restoration would be good. I would enjoy it but I can't see it helping their ratings.
Too many idiots about means prime time TV is increasingly for those with an IQ in single figures. That's why Fifth Gear (remember that quaint programme with some actual car reviews?) is on at strange times.
