I find that generally nobody expects my old Volvo S60R to have 320 hp. It seems to puzzle few people as its not very well known about.

I must be getting old as i am really starting to appreciate the plain looking "sleepers" like this W8 passat currently for sale on ebay biggrin

The fact it doesn't shout about what it is like a passat r36 is part of it being so cool.
So what "sleeper" would you go for?.

He's a couple of miles from me. Brings them in from Japan. They look shiny when photographed smile

X3 with the 335d engine. Used to be our family car, it was inane for a Ford Kuga shaped 10 year old BMW.

Never was a typo more appropriate... hehe

Good call. I didn't know they put that engine in that era of X3, and I drive an X3!

It's not a fast car of course but I think my F25 30d is probably quicker than most people would expect, the vast majority are 20d models. In xLine trim with small wheels it doesn't look like it does 0-60 in 5.8 secs.

One I used to own:

Looks just like a 2.0tdi, actually had a 4.2l FSI V8 with 345bhp, AWD and 0-60 in 5.7s.

Currently own this, it's not ballistic but I guess it qualifies as faster than most might expect for a mondeo (2.5T).

Both are brilliant and exactly what i mean, understated and have ability to catch people out.

Jaguar XF V8S, looks like an old mans Jag but has 410 bhp, does 0-60 in just over 5 secs and is limited to 155mph.

I was going to suggest this but I may have appeared biased hehe

The only thing that gives mine away is the previous owner changed the exhaust silencers and tailpipes so it can be quite loud while it's warming up, otherwise "Ooh it's a nice car isn't it" which gets quite a move on when you want.

Volvo S40 2.5T - same engine as the above and of the Focus ST at the time, 0-60 in 6.5:

Up until a few days ago I was driving a 2003 Vauxhall Vectra GSI. it's the 3.2 V6 one and looks like this

http://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&am...

75 mph in 2nd gear and 110 mph in third. only thing that gives it away is twin exhausts. I can understand why the Police used them back in the day. Only 207 bhp from the 3.2 but it's long gears and good torque means it surprised some much newer metal when it took off.

Vectra gsi isn't really fast even 10 years ago 220 bhp wasn't much.

Now the turbo v6 vectra is a bit of a sleeper.

For me the Toyota blade master g.

Toyota corolla with a 3.5 v6 engine, can't get anymore sleeper than this, from the factory.

Certainly surprised one local police driver - he managed 158 in one on the local long straight. Quite a publicised court case ensued when the footage was investigated from the onboard recorder

I will admit I've always called them Q-cars myself. Anyway, a few of my favourite rare ones where really only the badges give too much of a hint of the latent performance. Especially in these days of massive exhaust tips on 1.8 diesels.

I do love an old Merc.

I'd imagine that these can surprise a lot of people - pretty stealthy.

I surprised a lot of unknowing people in my Mazda 3 MPS - especially the VAG brigade rolleyes

And the wild card:

Not a fan of Corsas, but i approve of these.

Is this the SRI? If I remember right it came with a 1.6T with 150bhp, but could be remapped the match the VXR with the same engine at 190bhp

I've got an AMG E43 on order. It has occurred to me that if I remove the badges it will look petty much like a AMG line E220d. Even the twin exhausts (a bit bigger and real compared to the E220d) on the E220d look very similar. You really would be hard pressed to tell the difference.
