SLEEPERS! Anyone have a street sleeper here?
Discussion
My house mates old car (sadly gone now)
I think this counts. It looks a little different than a normal KA, but only stuff that is required (intercooler, bigger wheels and brakes, etc.)
Most people wouldnt notice it. 270Bhp.
His new one should be fun when its done, Standard looking Puma, more power than this.

That was Gregg's! Think it's been sold since and is used in the VWRDC.
Yep! James is doing a great job with it in the Sportsman championship this year.VW SP 237 - James London - Beige VW Polo - VWDRC by retromotoring, on Flickr

Get another!
I might be selling my 65k scarabe green aero soon. baby due in November, want something big, safe and boring that the missus can drive too. It's been pampered and drives like its new.
Good sleeer basis
Betting I've really missed the boat on this. Totally missed it. I might be selling my 65k scarabe green aero soon. baby due in November, want something big, safe and boring that the missus can drive too. It's been pampered and drives like its new.

My first NG900 was Scarabe Green, I miss that car too!

I didn't get chance to catch up with the owner, it's running a small block of some description.
The Ka is quite subtle, bar an intercooler the size of a fridge freezer nailed to the front of it
I thought so, wheels were st24's I think, so despite being 16 inch, didnt look too lairy. The Ka is quite subtle, bar an intercooler the size of a fridge freezer nailed to the front of it
Intercooler is pretty massive. The other bit that made it look noticable, was the bonnet was lifted slightly at the back.
Back and side, just looked like a cleanish, slightly low little Ka.

You're all doing this sleeper thing wrong with your Subaru's with bonnet scoops, fancy big alloys and the like..
I quite agree. Anyone interested in cars worth their salt would be able to spot a quick OEM car, or something with a few mods, regardless how subtle from a mile off.
IMO a sleeper should be something that gives NO clues to its true performance from the exterior.
That means steelies, an acceptably sized exhaust pipe and no bloody great intercoolers clearly visible through the front grille. For example.

I mean full roll cages, drag slicks, bonnet scoops, PH stickers, big exhausts and big old holes in the rear bumper aren't exactly inconspicuous.

Friend of mine has just bought a mk4 golf. Only non standard looks at a quick glance are the pressed plates and some scruffy alloys, no badges etc. I thought it was just some lad in a crappy golf (did t know it my my mate at this point) so thought I would try and have a play with my truck. Turns out it has 352bhp :/ on closer inspection it has nice big brakes which are well hidden by the many spoked wheels and a few other hidden mods.
I came across one of these the other day, I knew that MG did a couple of 'hotish' versions but I thought they were just V6 bit of noise and wafty stuff.
Turns out they came with the 4.6 V8 mustang engine and the one that I saw go flying off had a distinct whine sound to it, looked just like this but went like a charged 'stang

A guy i used to know way back when some time in the late 80's put a tweaked 3.5 ltr Rover engine in a Morris Minor, I have no idea of the figures, but it was completely bonkers.
Wasn't Nick Butler was it? He did some crazy Morris V8 and Model T Ford stuff. He also looked after my Dad's Cortina shaped P100 pick up - looked almost stock, had nearly 400bhp!Doodles19 said:

I also agree (hence I mentioned it) and have covered the front bumper holes with a new number plate and have a second hand rear bumper on order for the Volvo.Not sure what to do about the green bonnet, roof and wheels yet, but I think the PH stickers will stay as they can appear on absolutely anything.I know it will never be a true sleeper, but to many, it will always just look like a Swedish slab of nothingness! How about my Legnum;
300bhp, 340lb/ft, 0-60 in 5 flat with AYC and 4wd. Couple this with an old mans tan leather and half wood steering wheel and it does make a good sleeper! I remember a shocked owner of an e46 M3 cab saying to me from his drivers seat "F54ck me! that moves dunnit!!"
And the best part is because of the 4WD and AYC the performance is available in almost any weather!
