SLEEPERS! Anyone have a street sleeper here?
Discussion
I've found a thread on here about the BBR Shogun dad had; his was SWB, a 1986 model and black. It was a bit of a beast but shockingly thirsty!

My van :
Now with roof bars and well secured drain piping
It's got a 320bhp 2.0Turbo Z20LET engine and weighs just over 1000kg
These are quite old pics, but it now also has signwriting and a few more scuffs and dents
Although, obviously, not great off the line, from around 50-80 in third, it's not too far off the pace of my daily driver ;

Because it the smile on your face when you leave a much better looking/faster car with the owners wonder WTF was that, because people don't expect a ratty/stty/standard looking car to blow their "high performance" OEM cars on track Ect, because it's huge fun need I go on?
personally I love a true sleeper especially the WTF was that moment

A mate of mine got annihilated in his brand new B7 RS4 by a Nova. It wasn't completely standard looking but not far off.personally I love a true sleeper especially the WTF was that moment

A few months later he supercharged his Audi. Then wrote it off...

Wow, so sleeper really is lost on some people.
Happens every time the thread comes up. Should I post a picture of my Vette?
Everyone thinks it has 505bhp, no one would guess it actually had 565

You're all doing this sleeper thing wrong with your Subaru's with bonnet scoops, fancy big alloys and the like..
Grandpa ran 12's in this at the weekend
Just love this car, saw it at Shakey track earlier this year and hoping it will be there this weekend for the Hot Rod Drags.Grandpa ran 12's in this at the weekend
Not a street sleeper however a few people would laugh at our track car
It was a 1987 Austin Maestro, which always looked slightly out of place with Evo's, subarus, M3,s porsches
However it had Leda suspension, weighed 798kg and had 350bhp & 349ft lb, for the mathematically challenged its about 438bhp per tonne
Shocked a few people, especially a base ball capped Subaru driver at a track day that took the piss out of it for an hour before we went on track, (we passed him on first lap at Combe and again 9 laps later before the session finished)

Did you steal your front bumper off his Subaru
Sounds an awesome car and I'm impressed at the weight of it as its about 200kg lighter than my friend's Corsa B with turbo. His isn't stripped but it is a small tinny car to start with.
We need a bumper and it was going for £15 locall and was light without the bumper bar in ity, we only had 1 day to fit it before that track daySounds an awesome car and I'm impressed at the weight of it as its about 200kg lighter than my friend's Corsa B with turbo. Austins metal wasn't particularly thick to start off with, car weighed 1000kg when left the factory, by the time you strip everything, weld in a cage, cut the doors out, fit polycarb, fibreglass dash, lightweight seats, fibreglass bonnet, boot lid it's pretty flyweight.
Also had a tasty gripper diff in it
Engine for the non believers
Rover 2.0 T Series
Forged pistons 8.2:1 with valve cut outs
Forged crank, knife edged and polished
Forged H section con rods, balanced
Head ported polished, high lift inlet and exhaust cam
Vernier pulleys
T34.63 Turbo running 31 psi peak, 28psi sustained boost
Emerald ECU
Siemens 660cc injectors
cosworth map sensors, throttle body.
350bhp, 349ft lb @ 7000rpm

OK so my first one isn't a proper sleeper as such, but nobody expects a 1982 Renault Fuego to have 350bhp/Tonne and when I get the power down on slicks its brutal.
This second one is more suited though, my 21 Quadra. Currently around 250 horses but build in progress for much, much more

This is fairly local to me. Big intercooler half hidden behind the bumper kind of gives it away a little but. Had a breif chat to the owner who said it blew off a MK2 Focus RS just a couple of days ago with ease in the wet. No idea of numbers though.
This does it for me! It's all about the surprise factor... BHML said:
I've driven one of these... Fantastic! It's a hell of a beast. But, given the topic of discussion here, I think you should take a step back my friend, and look at it.
Nothing, but nothing about it makes it any kind of a sleeper! ...the huge exhausts, the enourmous wheels, a fairly sizeable badge sporting large numbers on it stating how big the engine is...
I think you're in the wrong thread here...
So is my de-badged, de-winged 1986 Toyota MR2 a sleeper?
With 160 hp / 970 kg it is brisk rather than fast, but it surprises a few people.
I once had a Triumph Herald convertible with a 3/4 race Corolla engine (1500 rpm idle, big cam, dell-orto carb, etc., etc.) - that was a sleeper, even without v8-beating performance. I had a few people asking what it had under the bonnet, after hearing it rev to 8500 rpm off the lights.
Sadly, modern cars are getting silly, and both the cars mentioned would be embarrassed in a straight line by many repmobiles.
I may have to supercharge the MR2...
