Most people thnk Subaru's are quick, when was the last time you saw a non Turbo Impreza?
that's part of the appeal of Si's car TBH, when do you ever see non-turbo imprezas and would you recognise one minus the scoops and wings?!AW111 said:
So is my de-badged, de-winged 1986 Toyota MR2 a sleeper?
With 160 hp / 970 kg it is brisk rather than fast, but it surprises a few people.
I would suggest mine as well (stock appearance, no external frills). I fail on aftermarket alloys though (and it's not very tatty). With 160 hp / 970 kg it is brisk rather than fast, but it surprises a few people.
However I don't think you can include a mid engined car as they have pretentions of capability built in.

Someone please correct me if my understanding of what constitutes a sleeper is wrong, but it should ;
LOOK LIKE IT HAS MICRA PERFORMANCE, BUT GO LIKE IT HAS SERIOUS SPORTS CAR PERFORMANCE
am I wrong ?

Depends how good your German is....http://www.vau-max.de/magazin/auto-der-woche/gesto...
It's not really my cup of tea, but for those that want to know what a sleeper is then look no further
How about this? The Gold R VW should have built:

Was at the cottage loaf meet a couple of years ago, usual array of exotic metal on display. A guy turned up with a seriously tatty mk3 astra GSI, parked up and opened his bonnet. I even made some comment about the poor dillusional chap parking up in his shed amongst the ferraris, ultimas etc and actually opening his bonnet. It was only when I spied the distinctive oil filler cap of a saab engine in there that I wondered over for a look and a chat. It had a turbo the size of a three bed semi and was chucking out well north of 400bhp if I recall correctly. Departed a short time later like a scalded cat and spat out three foot flames. Probably the best sleeper I've ever come across.
That will be Nige. Here is the build thread.Edited by TONKA2 on Friday 19th December 21:40

Fabia vrs tdi! 1.9 litres and 145hp worth of skoda sleeperness. I have great fun surprising passengers (especially my mum) and big euro barges!
Don't kid yourself. The VRS looks like its performance and wouldn't be able to keep up with almost any proper 'big euro barge'The Spruce goose said:

maybe with a remap but the passet is getting on 1.7 tonnes(I put a little turbo badge on when I first got it and my son bked me).

They are 130bhp std, first re-map takes them to 170 bhp with decent torque,mk5 golf gti territory.Interesting.
You can't really compare modified and standard cars. If the GTi was mapped then the vrs wouldn't see which way it went. It's no sleeper though in my opinion. Vrs has alloys, bumpers etc. it looks sporty/fast.
I was sorting through some of my files yesterday and came across this. Not mine unfortunately, but I saw it at Shuttleworth about 18 months ago. It's a Cortina GT, so standard about 75-80bhp. From memory it was pushing about 140 bhp with the breathed on X-Flow from Burton Power. Not bad for a car that weighs 850kg.
