More people would probably recognise a Mk1 Lotus than a GT, and I was looking to give a few people a suprise with what appears a standard Lotus Cortina. If it were a GT clone people would know right away it had been fiddled with.
I suppose it depends what you do with it on the outside. People in the know will know a Lotus Cortina has a bit of poke. A stock classic with a bit of poke would shock more.
I agree, would have been better with 1500 Super badging, not Lotus colour scheme. It's just a fake Lotus-Cortina, regardless of what's under the bonnet.

you wouldn't get any more than 220 bhp from a 2.9 cosworth. Workmate has one in his Mk3 Cortina with piper cams and bits and my Focus ST running 300bhp is still quicker, so cant be that one !

The paintwork, bodykit, wheels all say modified to me. The GTE/GSI was a hot hatch in its day. No, I wouldn't expect it to have the running gear it has got however I'd still expect it to be reasonably quick.

If it looked a basic 1.3L with wheel trims then that's a different game altogether......

hence the zenith of sleeperdom being something like 'royal nail' or the that bd offspring of a Partner and 406v6

If the massive twin pipe exhausts and huge wheels on a Astra weren't enough of a give away, the fact that the body doesn't look 'right'. Sort of like someone plonked the body onto a different chassis, which is what I'm assuming what is the case.

Clearly there are some very differing opinion as to what constitutes a 'sleeper'
You means like and S class with a pair of drain pipes sticking out the back wink
Have you run a quarter mile in that or are the numbers a gusstimate?
I hadn't thought about the exhaust. Concerning, as the rear is all people would ever see wink.

Not got one (stocking up on brave pills for the new year) but from all the info on them out there says they'll break 11s with ease with a good remap.

Do you really think people are going to go "oh hang on, I bet someone's put an Astra body onto a Corvette chassis" ?
I did. Instantly.

Well I thought that, but the advert does say that it's run 15s on the strip, which as it's a heavy bugger suggests it's got more oomph than a standard Cossie... who knows. Later (advert was 2012) owner might've messed it about even further.

Where's that nice chap with the Moris Minor from the autosport show Sunday service last year?
Found it - this thing. I know the wheels might give the game away but...

By 1998 the Impreza had already won a world rally title and was being campaigned by one of the most famous British Motorsport personalties to come out of the 90s. I think in actual fact probably everyone would have known what it was.

Anyway, my contribution, my current car crush, w220 S600.

You see an old, bus sized Merc. You'd expect it to be a V6, or at a push a V8 with a modest 300BHP or so. What you probably would not be expecting a Twin Turbo charged V12 with 600bhp/700lbft (albeit with extensive mods like a remap and... well, that's it) allowing it to fly down the 1/4 mile in 11 seconds or so and would muller most cars this side of a Veyron from a roll. And it looks like a 2 grand 320. I think they're fantastic!
11's? Really? Where's the proof.

I like playing with TorqueStats and it reckons it could do the following based on 600bhp;

Power to Weight: 313 bhp/ton
0-60: 4.3
0-100: 8.7
60-100: 4.4
1/4 Mile ET: 12.19
1/4 Mile Terminal: 125
Dragstrip 1/4 Mile ET: 11.99
Dragstrip 1/4 Mile Terminal: 128

Very impressive times for the barge.

Not the Trabant with its wheelie bar and drag wheels, nor the Tesla, but the rest of the cars in this video fit the bill I think:

Or you could look at actual figures, a 2013 S65AMG tested by Motor Trend magazine managed a 12.6 second standing quarter.
