But that’s not really a sleeper as it’s an st180 already and not a crappy 1.4 with an st transplant? It’s just taking debadging one step further lol
We've made it look like a slower one, got rid of the big wheels etc, no badges, no loud exhaust, and its just a white one so easy to make it look like a basic fiesta, I'd say its a sleeper, looks like a diesel creates no fuss just very quick.

Ok, not not as bonkers as some of the stuff here, but with the other side of 300lbf/ft torque it does ‘waft’ past stuff in a mildly comedic yet unruffled manner…..
On a Colecting Cars podcast I think Chris Harris spoke of a CX passing him quite rapidly. Could this be the one?

But an st is a 1.4 with an engine transplant and a body kit.

Of course it’s a sleeper.

Take away the wheels and body kit and you have got a cooking fiesta with a hot engine.

Sleeper.

I think he mentioned it was an XM, I’m secretly hoping he meant CX, in which case, well, I’d rather not incriminate myself……

Eeeer righto.

Will buy a c63, take off all the badges, put steelies on it, spoilers off and stick a c200d badge on it, will look like a diesel, sleeper yeah

Seems like cheating and not much like the traditional way of building a sleeper’ from a slow car.....

But I suppose the outcome is the same, I concede.

Carry on. I’m off to get some 1.8 badges and steelies for my daily.

There is no traditional way of building a sleeper.

Using its American origins, it is just as much of a sleeper if you tune up and older car or order a new car in base model trim with the most extreme engine option....something like a Plymouth Fury grocery getter with the optional 426 V8.

It just has to be what was THAT!?! fast in the context of a street race.

The whole point of a sleeper is that it looks inconspicuous, average, slow.

It doesn’t matter how it’s built.

It’s how it looks vs how it performs.

I have got a golf vr6 with a 1.8t conversion, it’s got black plastic bumpers, no side skirts or arches and steel wheels. Just like a normal 1.4/1.6 mk3 golf. But it’s not a sleeper? But if I had used a normal 1.4/1.6 golf and put the engine in that it would be?

I'd say in fairness that a 200bhp+ ST that looks nigh on the same as a regular model would catch many out.

The best ones in this thread all seem to be built using slow cars as a base. I suppose you can do it how you want though and as you have shown you can create one by making a fast car look slow.

Please post pictures of your golf.

My Fiesta St180 is a bit of a sleeper we replaced the standard ST body kit type bumpers with regular fiesta bumpers and fitted regular 16” wheels off a 1.4 titanium.

It mostly gets used on track and so it sits around a lot of the time and I didn’t want it getting stolen so we made it look like a 3 door diesel on the outside ( the twin pipe silencer is the only clue to what it really is which can be fun on the road as it’s got around 210 bhp and sticky tyres and goes very well down a twisty road!)
Need pics biggrin

Here's a curio - a Mercedes Gullwing replica based on a SLK32. The supercharged V6 should mean 0-60 will be down around 5 secs.

The kicker - yours for £180,000!

Cheaper, faster and more reliable than the original.

I think I'd still take an Eagle E Type though.

If anyone says that Sierra isn't a sleeper (but, but, the wheels are 1" bigger than standard) then I'm outta here.

It just blends in with all the other 40 year old brown Sierra estates you see about….

Would dish out a lot of surprises to normals but it’s a fairly well known car amongst car enthusiasts.
