The ASTRA is text book sleeper......well done sir

May I suggest adding ONE rear mud flap
Also cover the back side window with a black back to give the impression it's smashed smile

Love that Astra, Sierra and the Renault 19 - they're proper sleepers if you ask me.

Amazed at how many people seem to misinterpret the word 'sleeper'. AMG Mercs and Subaru sleepers? No. Just no.

Turbo charged Vauxhall Magnum? Not a lot to give it away, can just see the intercooler through the front grill if you look carefully.

My cousin runs an ek civic 4wd jdm si with a fully built b18c on itbs with a quaife gear kit. It has rusty rear arches and wheel trims.
I think I understand this sentence. If it is standard ride height, standard looking exhaust and a National Trust sticker, I think you make have a decent shout at this thread!
I understood the second sentence biggrin
My apologies for my poor grammar and punctuation I was slightly inebriated at the time of posting. He has a 97 Honda civic saloon. It was a 1600 single cam vtec four wheel drive ste lookin thing. He's Honda mad so he put a fully forged b18c integra type r engine, high lift cams and independent throttle bodies Hondata management and a quaife gear kit, original steel wheels with battered hub caps, rusty arches, it has a few different shades of white panels, it tops out at about 115mph but it gets their fairly rapid. He also has a 440 bhp eg civic. This time using a d series engine and turbo kit complete with four speed conversion, b18c turbo being built to drop into it at the minute, yellow eg hatch anniversary si also getting a b18c on throttle bodies. Will get pictures the next time I'm with him

I would say Fail on the sleeper, any US "rat look" truck is suspect these days.

Nice truck but edged out by them being "on trend" for hot rodding I think.
Fail, that's a obtuse choice of word.
Feels like I got an 'F' in a school assignment....

My opinion is I built it by myself, in my garage in 3 months over an unbearably hot summer.
It tried to kill me twice, but I had bloody good fun and I'm now driving it through deep snow and driving rain. It's brilliant.

Mine is not a Chevy small block with carburetor and open exhaust and dropped on airbags, so it's not on trend.

Here in the Midwest everyone drives a pickup truck, I always get someone sidling up to me at the gas station or grocery store and regailing their stories about having owned, driven, been driven in the exact same truck. They seem surprised it's actually running and not languishing behind a barn. In this weather especially they ask how I'm staying warm, when I explain to them I have a great heater and heated seats they raise their eyebrows and I have to come clean and open the hood to show them the engine. It's obviously a surprise and it makes me smile.

So In summary I don't feel I've failed; sleeper contest, show 'n shine, rat rod, whatever.

However I didn't see in this thread if there was an appointed council or judge of what constitutes a sleeper.
Perhaps someone who has actually built a sleeper?

True, and I am ashamed I used the "on trend" word. Wonderful truck and wonderful work/result.
I regrettable said no to sleeper due to the proliferation of Rat Look Tv programmes making such a project "suspicious" within the UK.

I LOVE it and would in an instant.

Ironically, it was missing that mirror before the engine swap! The blue mirrors were pinched off the donor Coupe!

Cheers for all the positive comments guys, the car is awesome to drive and really does surprise people! I'm hoping to take it over to the Ring this year but undecided on taking this or my Evo 6. For those asking for videos, I'll try to remember to get some once it's mapped!

If the Z20LET in it lunches itself I'll probably go for the later LEH block, forge it, pop a decent diff into it and enjoy it even more so. The car is mega sentimental so I'll never get rid of it if I can help it!

I love that Astra! Perfect sleeper. I have a shabby Astra H with the Z20LER and it's on steelies.

To clarify, I'm not trying to claim this for the thread. It still has the 2.0 Turbo badge, for instance

Loving the green Astra, better than my R19 by virtue of being

1 - A car that you see around you on the roads all day every day, background scenery basically.
2 - Finished biggrin

The black one is cool too

As you've correctly pointed out this is ultimately opinion based.

And if your truck pulled up next to me, I would automatically assume it will be far from standard and be able to blow most things out of the water.

It's a fabulous truck and I love the look and its all the more impressive that you've built it up yourself. I certainly don't have the skills.

But, in my very humble opinion, that truck is nowhere near being a sleeper. It's is however totally cool and I'd love one. smile

Do you have a build thread? smile

Ah - but you're looking at it through the eyes of someone with an interest in cars. To the "untrained" it looks like 'an old banger' (no offence!) that couldn't possibly outrun my diesel A3/Mini/Passat/insert car here.
